Comparison of colonial regions

Southern region
Ecomony: plantations (tobacco, rice, indigo, cotton) near the coast, hunting ,trading and farming in the mountains
Society: based on family status (nobles), land ownership, and strict social classes
Why it started: it started because the 1st successful English settlement was Jamestown, Virginia in 1607.
Middle Region
Economy: Small scale farming, ship building, trading and middle class
Society: More relaxed, strong middle class, and religious tolerance.
Why it stared:This started because they had more religious tolerance and were more culturally diverse.
New England Region
Economy: Shipbuilding, fishing, lumbering, subsistence farming, manufacturing
Society: status based on religion, strict
Why it started: It started because the Piligrims landed in Massachusetts in 1620. Religious dissent was the main reason why people came to the New England regions.
