Shortridge High School News and Updates
October 15th Updates Preparing for Start of Hybrid Instruction
This week we have some students coming into Shortridge Monday, others starting Thursday, and an additional group staying with full-time remote learning.
We want all our students to know that we love you, we support you, and that--
We are all Blue Devils!
We are looking forward to seeing everyone's smiling faces--Regardless if we see your happy eyes for those in the building (wearing your masks) or your smile for those logging in with Teams (with your video on).
All instruction will continue to be offered through Schoology-- including assignments, activities, and assessments. Students in the building will use Schoology and engage with the teacher in the class. Students at home will use Schoology and engage with the teacher and peers using Teams. Lessons will still be recorded and posted in Schoology. That way, if a student from home has any technical issues or wants to review a lesson, they will be able to participate fully.
This will ensure that ALL students have access to High-Quality instruction.
Of course, we are placing significant emphasis on affirming our new safety procedures and expectations with those shifting to in-person instruction. Regardless if you are at Shortridge or home, I asked that you take precautions, wear your mask, and follow all safety protocols so that we can beat this!
IMPORTANT--students electing to start in-person instruction can only attend school (at Shortridge) on your assigned days. You have received a postcard and email providing details of the days assigned.
- Students A-K start Monday
- Students L-Z start Thursday
- Attendance will be taken every period for both in-person and remote.
- Make sure you complete the COVID-19 Screening for Parents before you send your child to school.
- Mask at all times (except when eating)--on the bus, in the halls and classrooms.
- Enter the door closest to your drop off and exit at 4:00 through the same door
- One way halls on the 2nd and 3rd floor--follow the arrows and social distant floor stickers.
- Assigned seating in classes and lunchroom
- All students must leave Shortridge at 4:00 (end of the day) unless participating in competitive activities.
- Student IDs and Lanyards distributed the first day back (required). Remote students can pick up at school during school hours.
- No lockers--bring your backpacks with your supplies.
- Bring a fully charged Laptop and charger every day.
- Be safe, on time, and engage!
Please review the Updates to the Student Handbook with your student.

Our priority is the Safety and Wellness of our Students, Staff, and Families! Please--Wear a Mask and take the necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy. And follow the COVID-19 Screening for Parents before you send your child to school.
An additional change in policy due to COVID-19 and the district's health and safety practices, all visitors, including parents, must have a confirmed appointment with a staff member to enter Shortridge. Upon entry, please be prepared to present the staff member's name, department, and your appointment time.
Below you will find additional updates, celebrations, and important information from the Ridge. If you have anything you would like to share, please email Malinda Scott, our FACE coordinator.
Go Blue Devils!

It’s time to register for IB exams. Your quarter 3 grades determine whether you will take the official IB exams or our internal Shortridge exams. Coordinators are processing the data now and will be communicating more information, including registration instructions, in the coming weeks.
For 10th grade:
“What program should I choose for 11th and 12th grade?” “What are the differences between CP and DP?” “How will I know which courses to choose?” You’ll find the answers to these questions and more in this CP and DP Program Overview video.
MYP Updates: Hello MYP Families (and especially 10th-grade families!),
Just a quick note to remind you that I've uploaded TONS of new resources to the Personal Project resource folder. This includes more videos, access to my own Personal Project Model workbook, a detailed view (still draft form!) of the calendar for ATL this year, and much more! If you're curious to see my own progress on my model project, follow the Instagram account I'm using as my Process Journal (a required component of the project for all students): @merlin_makes_shs. I'll be posting my own (beginner) woodworking stuff there, as well as guidance/details about my goals, criteria, and final product/outcome for my project.
FRESHMAN ACADEMY
- EVERYONE gets to participate in the tours of the building—we will all be in the building at some point! Tour spots are split up by subject area (English, Algebra, World History, and Biology) throughout the week. Students who are on a computer will be brought along to experience the tour, as well, in real-time!
- During the 1st and 2nd period, students will be taken to the cafeteria to have lunchroom expectations reviewed twice before they eat in the lunchroom.
- Dress Code expectations (in-person and virtual) and how to wear a mask
- Getting Student ID’s
- Medication drop off directions
- Participating in class and turning the camera’s on was encouraged several times!
- Reaching out to Guidance Counselor Mrs. Ladd (Email: Ladda@myips.org) or Ms. Salmon (Salmona@myips.org) if they need to talk to an adult to help process emotions during the school day.
- It’s going to feel different for everyone but as a whole, we are all working towards a common goal of making our future goals a reality.

A and C Day Junior ASVAB Survey
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or ASVAB will be administered at Shortridge High School on Friday, November 6. While this test can serve as the vocational aptitude for those choosing to enlist in the military it is also a test that can fill Bucket 3 towards high school graduation requirements for those who score a 31 or higher.
Graduation Pathways information can be found here
We are encouraging all juniors to be present to take this test on November 6. However, due to the hybrid schedule that will be in effect, we are asking that each junior reserve their spot.
This will allow us to best plan and provide the safest testing environment for all students.
Please complete the following survey no later than Wednesday, October 21.
