We know students do plenty of listening in our classrooms, but what about the other three communication skills they should be engaging in and practicing daily such as reading, writing, and speaking? This four-day Professional Development opportunity follows the progression of literacy skill development across the Content Areas. Participants are invited to explore the habits of the mind and discover that literacy can be unique to each core content area. Built into each session will be an introduction to establish the why (with connections to ODE initiatives/Ohio’s Plan to Raise Reading Achievement), the research pertaining to the session’s content, resources, structures/protocols for application, and time for collaboration/planning for implementation.
Each session will contain processing activities that prompt participants to examine, reflect, make meaning, and connect the topics to their classrooms/schools/district. Participation will be active as ideas and experiences are shared with one another and the group.
If you have any questions regarding the content of these sessions contact Nick Jacobs.
