Welcome Back from Superintendent Darren Webb
I hope you all had a fun and relaxing summer with your families. First, I want to thank you for being a part of Lago Vista ISD and dedicating yourselves to making this the best district in Texas!
For our new families, I welcome you to Lago Vista ISD. I know you will find LVISD to be an excellent place to learn. Here at Lago, we embrace the small school atmosphere that allows us to build relationships throughout the community and, more importantly, with each student on our campuses.
With the beginning of a new year comes the start of extra-curricular activities, such as volleyball, cross-country, band, and football. It is exciting to see the students and coaches working hard for their seasons, which will no doubt be successful. Last year was an incredible year for success and accolades at Lago Vista ISD, not only in the classroom, but also in many different activities throughout the District. I believe it was just a preview of what lies ahead for our schools. I encourage you to be a part of the success of our extracurricular activities by attending and supporting our kids.
We are proud of our success in the past and will continue to improve the quality of education we provide for our children and their futures. “Excellence in ALL We Do” is the mantra for the Lago Vista ISD Vikings and we are ready to prove it in the upcoming school year!

Student Procedures for Varsity Football Games
In a continuing effort to assure the safety and enjoyment of all Lago Vista High School football games, we will continue to enforce the following procedures during home varsity football games at Viking stadium:
1. All students 4th grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult guardian in order to attend Lago Vista High School varsity football home games. The students must remain under the supervision of that guardian while at the stadium.
2. Standing, loitering, or horseplay under and around the stadium stands, concession stands, or any other area is prohibited. Revealing, provocative and/or inappropriate dress will not be allowed, nor will inappropriate behaviors or foul language. Repeat offenders will be required to leave the stadium and campus.
3. Once inside the stadium, middle school and high school students with a student ticket will be allowed to sit in the designated student area on the home side of the stadium. Students may sit in the reserved or general admission sections only if they are under the supervision of an adult guardian.
4. The use of alcohol, controlled substances, tobacco, and electronic cigarettes are prohibited on school premises.
Lago Vista ISD appreciates everyone’s cooperation and support as we work to keep a safe and enjoyable environment at Viking football games.

News from the LVISD Gifted & Talented Program
The Fall G/T Referral Window is Now Open!
School employees who wish to refer a student for gifted and talented should send a referral form home to be signed by the student's parent/guardian. Parents who wish to refer their student for gifted and talented may access the referral on the LVISD Gifted & Talented page. Parents who consent to having their child screened for the Lago Vista ISD Gifted and Talented Education Program should complete the referral form and return it the student's school by the due date. The referral deadline for fall semester screening is October 1st for students in grades 1-12. The referral deadline for spring semester screening is February 1st for students in grades 1-12. As all students are screened in kindergarten (with parent consent), referrals are not needed for students in kindergarten.

Lago Vista ISD Joins the Central Texas "Missing School Matters" Attendance Campaign
Students in Central Texas miss more days of school than their peers across the state in every grade. The problem worsens in high school, when Central Texas students are absent far more than in other parts of the state. Over half of absences in Central Texas were potentially preventable, including routine medical or dental checkups, traveling, or just skipping school.
Student absences are costly to our region in a variety of ways:
- Students can’t learn: If a student is not present at school, they are missing opportunities to learn, to socialize, to gain confidence, and to be inspired.
- Teachers can’t teach: It is much more difficult for teachers to teach effectively when they are “catching up” students who have missed.
- Lost funding for instruction: Many parents are unaware that the state funds schools based on daily attendance - so every day missed costs schools money. This means missing out on teachers, sports programs, and electives due to lack of funding. Each day your student misses costs the school district about $38.
Last year, our overall attendance rate in Lago Vista ISD was 95.57%, which is below the state average. Campus attendance rates for 2014-2015 were:
- Lago Vista Elementary - 95.46%
- Lago Vista Middle School - 96.13%
- Lago Vista High School - 95.20%
Our goal is to increase our attendance district-wide to 97% at each campus, or an average of two school days per student. An increase in student attendance will ensure that more students will be in their classrooms, learning and preparing for their futures - and that’s the most important thing!
How Can I Help?
Absences from school may result in a serious disruption of a student’s mastery of the instructional materials. We understand that there are times when an absence in unavoidable, however, we encourage students and parents to make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences.
- Help your child get into the habit and learn the value of regular routines.
- Teach your child that attending school is nonnegotiable unless they are truly sick.
- Schedule appointments outside of school hours as much as reasonably possible.
- Avoid picking up your student early on a regular basis, which results in missed opportunities for learning.
- Remember that, even though absences may be excused or unexcused, all absences count for the 90 percent state requirement for earning credit or a final grade. This rule applies in grades K-12.
- Punctuality is a vital life skill; it is very important that your student be on time everyday. Official state attendance is taken every day at 10:00am (9:50am at elementary).
Regular school attendance is essential for students to make the most of their education—to benefit from teacher-led and school activities, to build each day’s learning on the previous day’s, and to grow as individuals.
