Should Animal Testing Stop?
Animal Testing. Cruel or Helpful
What Is Animal Testing
Animal testing is use of animals in experiments and development projects usually to determine toxicity, dosing and efficacy of test drugs before proceeding to human clinical trials. Animal testing can help in some ways, but there are more things that make it cruel. There are animals in labs right now being tested on for a drug and that animal potentially could die.
Testing Medicines On Animals Doesn't Always Guarantee That It Is Safe
- A German doctors' congress concluded that 6% of fatal illnesses and 25% of organic illness are caused by medicines. All have been animal tested.
- 61% of birth defects are caused by drugs passed safe in animal tests, according to the same study.
- One in six patients in hospital are there because of a treatment they have taken.
There Are Other (More Accurate) Ways To Find Medical Solutions
Up to 90% of animal test results are discarded as they are inapplicable to man.
Rats are only 37% effective in identifying what causes cancer to humans. (Flipping a coin would be more accurate)
- At least 50 drugs on the market cause cancer in laboratory animals. They are allowed because it is admitted the animal tests are not relevant.
Bad Things Come From Animal Testing
- 9% of anesthetized animals, intended to recover, die.
- An estimated 83% of substances are metabolized by rats in a different way to humans.
- 88% of stillbirths are caused by drugs which are passed as being safe in animal tests.
