School News and Announcements
Thank you to all those who sent in photos of their Veterans for our November 8 slideshow and celebration. Highlights of the event included keynote speaker Vice Admiral Kevin Donegan, a special tribute to Captain Ted Smedberg introduced by Commander Ed Kinsella, and choral performances by each grade level as well as the Saint John Academy Choir.
Discover Catholic Schools Week
The Diocese of Arlington is celebrating "Discover Catholic Schools Week" November 17-23. Encourage your friends and neighbors to attend our Open House on Wednesday, November 20, from 9-11 am.
Family Picnic
Our first annual Fall Family Picnic will be Saturday, November 23 from 3:00-6:30 pm at the school playground. Please join us for a fun afternoon of music, friendship, games, hot cider/hot chocolate...and much more. We will gather outside near the playground for a casual afternoon of food and fun. Families are encouraged to bring their own picnic food, or you can sign-up to bring food to share (potluck style). Sign-ups for food and volunteer roles (e.g. Fire Masters to tend the firepits) will be forthcoming. Questions? Contact Renee Sewall at renee.sewall@gmail.com.
Chess Club
St. John the Beloved Academy will be reintroducing the Chess Club for 3rd-8th grade students. The goal of this club is to provide an opportunity for students to learn the rules and strategies of Chess while developing a love for the game. Led by Mr. O'Neill, the club will meet every other Thursday from 3:10-4:10 pm. Please see the form below for more information.
Grandparents Day
Saint John the Beloved Academy invites all grandparents to join us for Grandparents Day on Tuesday, November 26, from 9:00-11:30 am. There will be an all school Mass at 9:00 am, student performances at 10:00 am, classrooms tours, and light snacks and refreshments to welcome them to our school. Dismissal is at 11:30 am for Thanksgiving break. Email Maricel Heeter at mheeter@stjohnacademy.org.
Thanksgiving Basket Drive
Our Third Grade teacher, Mrs. Cristina Crowley, is kindly organizing a Thanksgiving food drive on behalf of the school. Families are invited to contribute items to the Thanksgiving baskets for each grade listed below. Baskets will be assembled and donated to SOME (So Others Might Eat), a food bank in Washington, DC for distribution to needy families in the area. If you would like to donate to your class basket, please see your class sign up. Thank you in advance for your generosity!!
