Winter Weather Reminder:
Morning Drop Off
As the cold weather moves in, the morning drop off traffic increases! To help avoid the traffic, please consider these two options:
- Dropping off before 7:30am. Students can immediately enter through the gym door in the front and wait with teachers and their grade level for the 7:30am bell to ring. There is much less traffic at 7:20am!
- Using the additional drop off lane in the South side parking lot. This is open to all students. Teachers and student greeters will be there to welcome students every morning!
College and Career Week
Parents, please consider participating in College and Career Week by recording a Flipgrid video describing your college and/or career. Parent videos will be shown to students during counselor class. Mrs. Rodriquez has recorded her video that you can view as an example.

A Note From Nurse Erika
What Are We Learning?
Math
Next week students will begin a new unit focusing on adding 3 numbers. Students will use strategies they have learned earlier in the year (such as making a 10 to add, tens frames, number lines, and looking for doubles) and apply them to solve addition problems.
Language Arts/ Social Studies
This week in language arts we have been focusing on drawing conclusions and asking questions. In writer's workshop, we have started learning all about Martin Luther King, Jr. Over the next few weeks we will compose a biography about the life and importance of MLK. Next week in language arts we will be introducing contractions. Make sure you ask your child about "contraction surgery".
In social studies, we will continue to discuss different cultures and traditions. Over the next few weeks, students will start a Holiday Research Project that has them show what they have learned about different cultures and traditions.
Science
This week we began a new Engineering Unit that focuses on Earth's Materials and how to use them to create useful products. Students will be learning about what soil is made of and why we need it. They will also begin exploring how the properties of different materials can have an impact on a final product.
IMPORTANT: For this unit, your child will need to bring a ziplock bag filled with 10 rocks. All rocks must be smaller than your child's fist.
