Wednesday Update

A note from Sue O'Brien

November 6, 2013

Yeah we made it to Wednesday! The homecoming activities are going well and i appreciate the planning and preparation that goes into these events. Our soccer players today were well prepared for the game and it was nice to have our friends from EKLC come over! The fire drill held today was a bit different then normal as we had an activity in the gym going on and several classrooms were split up in groups. We successfully exited the building and for some staff and students they exited through the multi-purpose room door or another door in which we typically have not done. All students and staff were reunited with their classrooms in good time. I am aware that the south doors are difficult to maneuver, especially near Room 113. This is an ongoing problem that we continue to try and improve. You all work so well together and during the drills I see the kindness and compassion you have for each another and our children.

MI-Access testing must be completed this week.

Here are a few reminders for the rest of the week:

1. Progress Notes are due to be turned into the office on Wednesday to be counted and returned for your parent teacher conferences. On Wednesday you will be getting concussion paperwork for caregivers/guardians to review sign and return to school. You will need to put this additional paperwork in the progress report envelope.

2. Concussion training- Information as to how to complete this online was sent out to you in email by nurses earlier this week. Due to the fact that school was closed and we did not have the planned all staff meeting the nurses had to get out to you. We are aware of the glitches that some of you are experiencing, especially if the computer in your classroom does not allow you to open the document. Please be patient and we will all find a place to complete and print your certificate. You can use the I PAD to complete however remember that you cannot automatically print from the I PAD so you have to take a picture of your certificate on the I PAD and then send to your email. See Nancy, Julie, Charlie if you need help with that. We are hoping to complete all certificates by the end of November 7th. Our nurses are collecting the data on this and turning into the HR office. When parents return their signed concussion notes please turn into the office in basket where we will verify the return.

3. November 7th - Parent/Staff Conference Day and Transition Parent/Trip- Teachers and ancillary please turn in your Thursday schedule to me by Wednesday afternoon. I will make a copy and return to you. You don't need to turn in any other documentation in regards to your conferences. Keep a call or visit log for yourself as you feel you need. There is still opportunity for staff to sign up and attend the bus trip that has been set up for staff and parents to visit post secondary programs. This trip is for any staff member that is interested. Its always a good idea to learn what is available out there for our students once they leave our school. See Charlie in the morning if you want to attend the trip. Keep in mind that we will be having visitors and guests in our building and on the bus trip all day. Visitors must all sign in at the office before going to your classroom! Make sure they have signed in. We must account for all of our guests!

Clean and straighten your rooms, turn on your technology, have switches and other adaptive equipment out in your room for those parents coming into visit. Have your student data and information ready and available for discussion. The bulletin boards are looking great around the building- make sure they look neat and organized in your

classrooms and put your best foot forward! We are all professionals!

4. November 8th - Our 1st Friday technology training at 8:05 in the GenNet Room. This is for all staff that want to learn more about I PADS. We don't have the cart yet to hand out additional I PADS for training but if you have a personal I PAD bring it. For those that have to count professional development then you can document the time for this training. Friday is also the last day of MCIC homecoming. Powers parade and assembly, awards ceremony and dance in the afternoon and it is dress up day! We will be having visitors and guests attending on Friday so again it is important that all guests sign in at the office and feel welcome here at MCIC!

Our mission here at GISD is "Partnering for Success" Leadership, Service and Innovation.

I have observed many examples of this so far this week! Thank you for making MCIC a great place to work and learn!
