Newsletter Week 8 Term 3

St Joseph's School Waipukurau 15th September 2021

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Kia ora koutou

A very warm welcome to our new school families who have joined us after lockdown.

It was lovely welcoming back all the students last Thursday and on such a beautiful warm spring day. It was really nice hearing all the happy voices as the students reunited with their friends.

Unfortunately, we were unable to hold our school cross-country today, it has been postponed until Monday the 20th of September. If we remain at Level 2 parents are unable to attend. Students will be bused to and from the event. Please send your child to school in their correct PE uniform & and house T-shirt, plus a warm jacket, packed lunch, and a drink bottle of water. Photos and videos will be shared on our school Facebook page.

Central Hawkes Bay inter-schools cross-country is being held on the 23rd of September. Only the top 2 runners from the 12years plus (2 boys and 2 girls) will be attending this year due to COVID restrictions.

Speech Competition

We will be holding our Annual School Speech Competition on the 24th of September at 1 pm in the school hall. In-class speeches will take place before the school speech competition and the top 4 from each class (room 4 to room 6) will go through to the finals on the 24th. The year 1 to 3 students will do poetry recitals. Unfortunately, although we are back under level 2 there are new restrictions therefore parents are unable at this stage. We will record them for parents to view.

The Rotary Speech Competition is on the 27th in the evening at Waipukurau School but please note this date may also change or have restrictions in place.

Teacher Only Days this term:

On Friday the 1st of October, we will be having teacher only days (TOD). This means the school will be closed for instruction. Please make arrangements for your child/children to be supervised on these days. We are having the TOD so that the teaching staff can start to work on our localised curriculum with a Ministry of Education Adviser.

School Fun Run 2021

Today the students all took part in our school cross-country which counted as our fun run to raise money for the sacred space.

We have raised $3948, great job team - what an awesome effort!

If you collected cash please ensure you return your booklet and money to the school office by the 20th of September.

From the 17th of September to the 24th of September, students can order their prizes online.

Covid Level 2 - There are to be no public Masses or other liturgical events or in-person parish gatherings in the Diocese – revised next week. Churches are to be closed except for funerals, as it is difficult to monitor contact tracing, social distancing, mask wearing, and numbers.

MESSAGE FROM THE DRS

The 2021 Caritas resources encourage us to BE the Church through our daily lives and the way we encounter others. Pope Francis sums up our daily challenge this way …

This is challenging for each one of us. Take, for example, the fourth beatitude …

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled” (Matthew 5:6)

… when we see injustice in our world, each one of us must ask ourselves the question: How is the Lord calling me to respond?

Choose one of the prayers that you like the best and pray it with your family.

The first one is a te reo challenge

Challenge number one AKO - LEARN the te reo for FIVE of the key words or phrases on this BEATITUDE STICKERS poster.

Challenge number two - Record/ Video/create a TikTok of yourself using the te reo and share it with someone outside your bubble.

Challenge number three - Read the poem Be.
