What does lunch look like at Mable Woolsey?
First, starting Sept. 1st, students now have 2 choices at lunch: the entrée or a salad. Kudos to our cafeteria staff for incorporating this into the day! Each morning, the students will get to choose which lunch they want. When it is lunchtime, students arrive at their designated time and proceed into the serving area if they are getting a hot lunch. If they brought their lunch, they go directly to their seat if they are not getting milk.
Our kitchen staff prepares trays of food for students to pick up and take back to their seats. Sticker/tape/etc. are located on the benches of the cafeteria tables to show students where to sit. We have students seated roughly 5 feet apart with three on a side in a zigzag pattern. With this arrangement, no plexiglass dividers are needed. We do have a couple of grade levels that are larger than others which means we have to add plastic 6 foot tables to have enough seating. Four students are seated at these 3 feet apart on the sides, but less than 3 feet across so we will continue to use the clear plastic dividers on these tables. Students wear their masks until seated and eating/drinking. Once they are done, they are to put their mask on until they exit the building for recess.

What is Senate Bill 818 and what does it mean at Mable Woolsey?
Senate Bill 818 brings Illinois’ sexual health education into the 21st century by adding new personal health and safety education standards in kindergarten through 5th grade, and making comprehensive health education more inclusive in grades 6 through 12. School districts do not have to adopt the voluntary standards unless they are teaching comprehensive sexual health education, and parents can choose to opt out.
Since we DO NOT teach a comprehensive sexual health education at the elementary level, we will not adopt the standards.
