Gr 2 ELA and MATH News
April 22, 2015 Pilgrim Lutheran School
Mr. Yearick reports:
This week we learned about pronouns and the genre of fantasy. We also explored the R-controlled vowel sounds of "or", "ore", and "or". The students picked Matilda by Roald Dahl as our new read aloud, and we've really been enjoying that.
This coming week, we'll split into our fruit groups and read a story about a lamb and a butterfly, a collector of words, or a rubber duck lost at sea. We'll also learn about possessive and reflexive pronouns and the vowel variant "oo".
Mr. Bollig reports (from Gr 2 math):
Art and Math
Students created works of art using fractions. These are called Fractiles.
Exploring Capacity
We explored how much pasta each of the cylinders would hold. Most of us thought that the tall one would hold more. Which one do you think would hold more?
Brushing Up on Perimeter
We spent one more day practicing perimeter. This time we traced pattern blocks and measured the perimeter.
