Coaching 4 Ps
Review, Preview, Praise and Problems: February 29-March 4
Progress
- Added reading strategies/skills lessons to third grade Revolutionary War inquiry unit. Met with teacher to discuss skills for the students.
- Worked in two third grade classrooms co-teaching a personal narrative unit. I co-taught only an endings lesson in another third grade classroom on Wednesday.
- A major portion of my time this week involved teaming with my "buddy" fifth grade teacher. We introduced an inquiry unit by laying the foundation skills necessary for them to begin their research after Spring Break.
- Met with two kindergarten teachers to tackle RIT band groupings for reading.
- Checked-in with third grade RIT groups (particularly GT class and how to work within their RIT bands). We discussed using novel studies for this.
- I was a guest reader in a first grade classroom for Read Across America Day on Wednesday (and of course I have to get into "costume" for the day).
- Attended district coaches' meeting. We discussed Fountas & Pinnell end-of-year dates, and worked on the curriculum for Summer camps.
- Led literacy committee meeting on Wednesday. We discussed our end-of-year reading celebration and the reading portion of our strategic plan.
Plan
- Meet with a third grade teacher to discuss grading with John Collins. We are going to go thru papers; I will model writing conferences after the teacher and I go thru them. (This moved another week to give teacher time to grade the papers for us to discuss.)
- Meet with kindergarten teacher to help plan guided group for RIT band instruction.
- Co-teach personal narratives in an additional third grade classroom. On Monday, teach the endings lesson in last week's third grade classes. Model public conferences for those teachers.
- Meet with two third grade teachers to finalize Revolutionary War Inquiry unit.
- Write up March Madness Reading competition and send it out.
- Attend State cohort meeting on Thursday.
- Continue work with fifth grade teacher in the inquiry "set-up" lessons.
Praise
- Teachers are sharing the lessons I am co-teaching and other teachers are asking for me to come in based on teacher recommendation. So Powerful!
- I love the dedication of the teachers and the extra miles that so many of them go!
Potential Speed Bumps (not really problems)
I do not see any new potential bumps for this week. I do want to get back into second RIT groups, but my schedule with the fifth grade teacher conflicts with the second grade time. I may have to make one day a modeling day and debriefing, and the next day let the teacher handle the lesson so that I can get back over to the k-3 campus in the afternoon for second grade.
