Conservancy Kids

We bring the Sonoran Desert to you!

Big picture

Welcome to Conservancy Kids!

We are so excited to have you with us on this virtual journey of inquiry and place-based learning! Right now we may be social distancing, but we're all connected by the awesomeness of science. We're junior scientists, exploring the natural world, asking questions, and making discoveries. Join us for an adventure that will take you outdoors, around the house, and into the incredible Sonoran Desert. Welcome to Conservancy Kids! We're excited to see you!

Pollinators--They're Pretty Neat!

Why are flowers so pretty? Why do they smell nice? They're trying to attract pollinators! We can thank pollinators for almost all of the plants we see and eat. Plants rely on pollinators to transfer their genetic material (in the form of pollen) to other plants of the same species. Plants have some tricks up their leaves to attract these pollinators. In exchange for stopping by, plants offer rewards like sugary nectar, oils, and even the pollen itself. Pollinators are a really important part of any ecosystem!

Desert Pollinators!

Let's be a scientist!

Pollinators are everywhere! Wherever you see plants and flowers, you can find pollinators looking for a tasty treat. Let’s be scientists and investigate the desert pollinators around your home. Write down what you discover and ask questions to explore further. Check out the video and lesson plan below!

Luke loves science and being out and about in nature! He studies a lot about biology, ways of thinking, and philosophy. Luke also loves to teach and encourage kids and adults to always keep learning.

Nicole Kallman, Education Coordinator

Nicole loves science and exploration. In college, she studied physics and biology. Now, she shares her excitement about science with others, encouraging everyone to follow in the footsteps of Miss Frizzle: "take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!"
