Mrs. Bearden's Weekly Update

October 2, 2023

Dear Eagle Canyon Families,

Last week was another great week at Eagle Canyon. Several families participated in the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Parent Informational Meeting. Ms. Landgraf, our sixth-grade teacher and President-elect for the California Association for the Gifted, shared a dynamic presentation focusing on essential strategies and information for parents to support their children.

The highlight of last week was the Woodstone Pizzeria/Baskin Robbins Scoop Night. Eagle Canyon was well represented by several teachers and our MTSS-B counselor, Mr. Armstrong, who all scooped ice cream for our amazing Eagle Canyon community. Congratulations to Mrs. Edwards' class for winning the class competition! They have earned a Baskin Robbins class party. Thank you to everyone who supported this fun event!

We surpassed our original Thinknlocal goal thanks to your support on Thursday night. We are currently only $446 away from the new goal of $1,250.00. When you shop locally, please take a moment to check the app to see if the business is supporting our fundraiser. If so, take another moment to scan the receipt.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs. Bearden

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow

Attendance in school leads to better performance for children when they are adults. As such, CVUSD has a new attendance challenge for the 2023-24 school year. They are challenging schools to attain a 96.5% attendance rate.

School starts every day at 7:50 a.m. To ensure our students make it to class on time, we offer breakfast and supervision beginning at 7:20 a.m. Between 7:15 and 7:35, traffic is very light.

We only missed the 96.5% attendance goal once in the last nine days. That is fantastic! Please make illness the only reason for an absence to ensure your child is prepared by the end of the year.

This meeting will be held as a hybrid event to ensure everyone can participate. A Zoom link will be shared in a separate Parent Square message.

Student Smart Devices

As a reminder, the student's smart devices must be off while the students are on campus. Smart devices include smartwatches. Please remind your children if they have a phone or smartwatch to turn it off to avoid smart devices from being confiscated. I appreciate your help!

The PTA is asking families to donate Halloween candy for the event. Donations can be dropped off in the office.

PARKING LOT/TRAFFIC

First, I would like to thank the families who work with our staff members to keep traffic moving in our parking lot. We are all trying to get cars in and out of the parking lot as quickly as we can.

On any given day, over 700 people (students and employees) are arriving and leaving Eagle Canyon Elementary. It takes everyone working together to ensure we maintain a safe environment in our parking lot and front of our school. Please pay close attention to the following reminders:

  1. We have two loading zones, one in front of the cabanas and the other on Eagle Canyon Drive directly in front of the school. Please avoid parking in these two areas as one car can affect traffic for everyone.
  2. Please stay in your car when dropping off or picking your child up from the loading zones. We must keep traffic moving so everyone can get to school on time and finish before the teachers on duty leave at 2:40 p.m.
  3. Refrain from blocking cars that need to back out of their parking spaces. Several staff members leave our school to go to other school sites, district meetings, or other jobs. Please work with them so they can safely get to their next destination.
  4. Please do not park in Staff Parking or the two Reserved spots. Our teachers and support staff must be in classrooms ready to welcome students at the beginning of the school day.
  5. U-turns are not allowed in front of the school on Eagle Canyon Drive. It creates an unsafe situation and many times creates more traffic.
  6. Finally, cars cannot enter a crosswalk when the crossing guard is crossing pedestrians.

Thank you for working with us to ensure everyone gets to school and returns home safely!

Join the Eagle Canyon PTA

Consider joining the PTA today! Your $10 PTA membership fee is an easy way for families to support the field trips and programs supported by the PTA. You can ask family and community members to join too.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS ON THE MARQUEE

Another way you can support our PTA and celebrate your child's birthday is to purchase a birthday greeting for $25 that will be displayed on your child's birthday and run for one week. If you are interested, please stop by the office and fill out the request and submit the payment. Please be sure to plan in advance. We need to have two weeks' notice before the birthday to ensure everything is timed correctly.

WEEK NINE SPIRIT DAYS

Wednesday: Wear college/university shirts

Friday: Show your Eagle Canyon spirit! Wear Eagle Canyon spirit wear or blue and yellow.

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

At Eagle Canyon, our students benefit from Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 support. Mr. Armstrong, Eagle Canyon's Counselor, works with small groups of students to provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 counseling with a curriculum focused on supporting our students' social-emotional health. You can request support if you have concerns regarding your child's social-emotional health. Click on the picture to access the online Parent Request for Assistance form.
