Virtual Learning Week 1 in Review

Eastin Families,

First off, I would like to thank our entire staff for all of their efforts in shifting completely to Virtual Teaching. This has been a huge undertaking and lots of learning has taken place.

Eastin has been hugely successful in getting almost 100% participation during our first week of Virtual Learning. This has been a community effort including our office staff and technology department ensuring Chromebooks were picked up by all families who needed them. Our teaching staff who has reached out to every students' family if they had not been able to connect to students. Our parents who have come to school in a very orderly fashion to pick up Chromebooks for their students. Our entire community has played an instrumental role in ensuring all Eastin students continue to learn for the remainder of this school year!

There have been a few bumps along the way, however, working together, we are getting these sorted out. Please keep a look out for a survey from NHUSD by the end of next week.

I know there are a lot of questions about how to retrieve items from the school site. At this point, the school site is closed to students and parents. As a district, working closely with shelter-in-place orders as well as social distancing guidelines, we are working on a plan for retrieval of personal items prior to the end of the year. I will share information once it has been finalized.

There is a lot of information in this update, so thank you in advance for reading through to the bottom!

Chromebook Insurance

If you have checked out a school Chromebook and are interested in Chromebook Protection Insurance, NHUSD does offer a plan for $34 per device. This is a parent-paid offer for $34 that covers all accidental or other damage to their school-issued Chromebook. Parents do have to bring the device to their repair depot in Hayward, but they do have fast repair turnaround. This is not required, but an option to families. The window to sign up is open now and closes May 15, 2020.

Wi-Fi Needs

It is very important that all Eastin students can access Virtual Learning. If your student is unable to access virtual learning because they do not have access to the internet, please contact the Principal Rodriguez at

QR Codes for TK - 2

Our youngest students have QR codes to easily sign into their Chromebook and Clever accounts. If you have not received your child's QR code (TK - 2nd Grade Students Only) and cannot get access to Clever, please contact Principal Rodriguez at

NHUSD Clever Portal

All of our students have a NHUSD Clever Portal. This allows them access to curriculum and content through a single sign on. If you have a student Chromebook, your student will automatically log into the Clever Portal when they sign on.

School News App

Dear Eastin Community,

We will start to use the School News app by Edlio, an activity feed for consuming alerts, news, and events for participating schools. It’s a simple way to view the school’s news feeds and calendars, and also receive push notifications directly from us.

It’s free to download to your iOS or Android phone and quick to set up:

  1. Go to the App Store or Google Play and search for “School News by Edlio” to install.
  2. Open the app and search for the school; tap “Add School.” If you have kids in other Edlio-powered schools, add them to the app too.
  3. Enable push notification by going to the Alerts tab and tapping “Enable Notifications.”

All of the news and events posted to our website are posted here for easy access. You can also add multiple Edlio-powered schools and/or districts to gather all news, events, and alerts in this one app. We’ll send push notifications out to keep you updated on urgent news.
