A Note from Mr. Meyers
The year is now officially underway. In all classrooms, students are working hard and engaged in meaningful learning activities. Teachers are beginning to implement our new reading curriculum, launch project-based learning units, and engaging students in reading and writing. In all areas of the school, we are experiencing the joy of working in a safe and loving environment and feeling pride in our students’ accomplishments. The grit and perseverance your students showed last year is evident in their scores on our Fall Benchmark Assessments. We cannot wait to show you all of the amazing things we have been working on this year during open house!
Thank you again for everything you do at home to support the success of your students and their school! It is a good time in our history to be a part of the Bruneau Grand View School District.

Bruneau Elementary Open House
Please join us on Wednesday, September 23 from 5-7 p.m. for open house. This is an opportunity to chat with your child’s teacher and learn more about what they are doing in the classroom and to talk about how your student is doing before the end of the quarter. This is also a great opportunity to talk about any Google Classroom concerns you may have or ways to work with your child at home.
Hope to see you all there!

Kindergarten has been working on reviewing the alphabet letters and sounds, learning new sight words, and making the sounds in a word. In math we have been learning the ways to make 5, 4, and 3.
First grade has been working on reading fairytales this week. We are finding the missing number and changing the order of the addends in math.
We are excited to have you come see our work during open house!

Happy September, everyone! We are hard at work here in 2nd and 3rd grade. In Reading, we are working on decoding words and learning the different ways we can comprehend stories. In Math, 2nd grade is halfway through their first unit, learning the different ways to add and subtract within 20. 3rd grade just finished their first unit on rounding to the nearest 10 and nearest 100, and adding and subtracting within 1,000.
Open house is coming up! I look forward to meeting all of you and giving you a glimpse into our school day here at Bruneau Elementary. Have a wonderful rest of September, and I’ll see you guys soon!

In math, 4th graders are working on place value and 5th graders are learning to calculate volume. In language arts we are working on writing answers that follow the R.A.C.E. acronym: Restate, Answer, Cite, Explain. Using this acronym will help us fully explain our thinking and relate our answers to text evidence. In writing we have practiced writing from different points of view. Last week the students did a great job writing a letter as if they were a child living during the Great Depression. This week the writing focus has been on writing an informal narrative about the story behind their name. Their writing will be displayed with their self portrait artwork on our class bulletin board in the hallway. You can stop by and take a look during the Open House!

Hello, my name is Laura Gasper and I was recently hired as a Paraprofessional for the elementary schools. I graduated high school this last year from Rimrock. In my free time I enjoy hanging out with friends, being outdoors, and watching Netflix. My favorite season is summer and my favorite food is tacos. I love country music but can listen and jam to almost anything.
I am very grateful for this opportunity and am excited to help students learn and grow while also continuing to learn and grow myself.
