Principal's Update ~ November/December 2017
From the Principal's Desk
Greetings Orchard Hill Families!
The time between Thanksgiving and the winter holidays always seems to fly by so quickly! Parent-Teacher conferences are taking place and I hope that you are finding them to be informative. It is important to keep communication lines open with your child's teacher and continue to set reasonable goals for their future success at school.
We are excited to remind you that for the next progress reporting period we will be implementing our new standards based report card. These will be available to you February 2, 2018. Please note that all report card indicators are based on end of year expectations for each grade level, and it is likely that students will be working toward mastery of these indicators throughout the school year. More information will be shared on how to access your child's report card through Genesis/Parent Resources.
This fall, the teachers and students have been very busy investigating the new science units. It has been fun visiting their classrooms and seeing the excitement as they take on the role of scientists. Check out some pictures below!
During November character education lessons focused on the pillar of citizenship. Our school counselors discuss what it means and how it looks to be a good citizen. In December the focus will be on trustworthiness. Be sure to look for monthly newsletters with great information from our counselors, Mrs. Senatra and Ms. Buber. You can catch up on recent guidance newsletters by clicking the following link https://www.mtsd.k12.nj.us/Page/16240
As the holiday season approaches excitement naturally builds with young children. Our PTA will sponsor the annual Holiday Gift Fair where students have an opportunity to shop for family members or friends. This event provides an opportunity for the children to find that special gift that will bring a smile to the special people in their lives.
Along with Mrs. Dudley, I wish all of our Orchard Hill families the very best during the upcoming holiday season!
Warmest regards,
Mrs. Kathleen Scotti
