BHMS Principal's Update 12/6/21
Toy Drive, Holiday Concerts, Orange Status
Keeping Up with What is Going on at the Hill!!!
Last week was a great week as we raised money to benefit families in need whose children are confined to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia throughout the holdiay season. We came together as a school and collectively signed the No Place for Hate school pledge which is below. We are committed to this journey and while in middle school, it is imperfect, the quest and the reminders of the importance of treating people with dignity and respect is paramount in our minds and in our mission.
Additionally, we are constantly reminded that a Bulldog is one who commits to the service of others. As a result, this year, we are having toy drives, coat drives, and food drives for the holidays to try to ensure the joy of the holidays is a reality for all. This is especially important as we continue to have to deal with this pandemic.
With regard to the pandemic, we have obviously entered the Orange phase. Schools had to close their locker rooms to mitigate further spread and close contacts. We are looking to make a change to the letter I sent out on Thursday. We will have hall lockers in use and will announce it to the students on Monday.
Finally, these next two weeks, we are having two surveys which will be discussed in this newsletter. These surveys ask two different things. All are anonymous but one asks about social and emotional well being during the pandemic and the other asks about school culture in general. Both surveys help the school address needs of the students as well as any changes needed at the school level. These surveys will be conducted during the PE study halls so as not to impact classroom instruction. We are pulling information from our Powerschool database where families indicated their preference to have their children take such surveys. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the counseling department at BHMS and speak to your child's counselor.
Wishing you continued health this week.
Sincerely,
Mike D'Ostilio
