This book provides a wealth of information on Tourette Syndrome, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and related conditions Includes strategies for discipline and behavior management, advice on supporting and motivating kids with TS and OCD, homework tips, and more Shows how to educate peer students about TS and OCD
Loaded with practical information, strategies, and resources, this book helps parents and teachers to better understand Tourette Syndrome and OCD and shows how every individual can reach their potential in school and in life.
TS & Associated Disorders: Thursday with Dr. Phelps from 9am until 4pm
Motor and vocal tics can cause significant distress and impairment for individuals living with Tourette’s Disorder. The disruption in daily life is not confined to the individual coping with tics, as parents, siblings and extended family are also impacted by the noises and repetitive movements. Dr. Phelps will address, via lecture and discussion, the impact of Tourette’s Disorder and co-occurring conditions on the family system. Specific strategies to foster resilience and manage relational tension will be discussed.
In the afternoon session, Dr. Phelps will overview what is known about Tourettic Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or Tic-Related OCD. Similarities and differences between this form of OCD and other presentations of the condition will be covered, as well as evidence based treatments to minimize daily interference. Specifically, the components of Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP) and mindfulness based techniques will be summarized.
Both morning and afternoon sessions will include extensive time for group discussion, networking among parents, and discussions around accessing providers with proper training.
During the week of Camp Twitch & Shout we provide an opportunity for you to be around other families and get to know them during the camp week (ask about the "Pirate's Den"...). Mary Lamb is our Parent Rep and will be staying at The Graduate Hotel during the week of camp.
The Graduate Hotel still has rooms available for July 7th through the 13th - yet the night of the 13th (after camp is over - checking out on the 14th) is now completely booked and no rooms are available for that night. If you have not made your reservations yet...I highly recommend that you do it asap. Calling during the day time is best.
The Graduate Hotel is also the site of our Parent Workshops and The Foundry (which is a bar/event venue on site). During the week they allow guests to attend any of their events for free - others will have a cover charge. There is an Outdoor Pool and Coffee Shop & Lounge - no breakfast served.
