Greetings from Washington D.C.! Mrs. Furlong and I have the pleasure of representing Montgomery Elementary School at the National Blue Ribbon Ceremony this week with educators from around the country. While COVID is certainly a topic of conversation, it is delightful to discuss instruction and learning with other schools. It is affirming to know that our wonderful staff and families engage in the best educational practices. Being our lead learner for a few days is one of my favorite roles. I can’t wait to come back to share all of the exciting practices happening around our great nation!
Best,
Amy

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Vision & hearing screenings were completed last month at Montgomery Elementary for the kindergarten, first and third grade students. The goal of the Ohio Department of Health school screening program is to identify children who have possible vision or hearing disorders at an early age and refer for diagnosis and care. This year’s screening program was a huge success both in reassuring our students, and in identifying those children in need of further care.
A heartfelt “Thank You” to the following nurses who volunteered their time to these important screenings: Karin Detchon, Steph DeSalvo, Jillian Dumes, Rachel Fehring, & Jocelyn Key .
With gratitude,
Susan Linton

CANNED FOOD DRIVE
The canned food drive starts November 1st and will end November 19, 2021. These cans provide needed food for families in our area during the holidays. Let’s all help take care of others by providing food to families who need our support. Please bring in Thanksgiving non-perishable foods starting November 1st. Other food items always needed are corn, green beans, peas, baked beans, fruit, soup, peanut butter, jelly, tuna, ravioli, beef stew, chili, and cereal.
Thank you!
CLASSROOM LIBRARY FUNDRAISER
Click the link to register now for the "Read-a-thon" fundraiser. The fundraiser runs from NOVEMBER 1 to NOVEMBER 12. This fundraiser is specifically designed to 1) get kids excited about reading and 2) fund Fall Special Requests to buy new books for classroom libraries with a focus on literary competency specific for each grade level. The sooner you register, the better!
How does it work?
1. Click this link to register and review instructions!
2. Kids will read or read with an adult! It ALL counts!
3. They will keep track of the number of minutes read!
4. Just like Boosterthon, they will reach out to friends and families for pledges during November 1-12 by sharing their PLEDGESTAR link!
5. We raise money for Montgomery Elementary School Classroom Libraries.
6. Kids have a chance of earning fun prizes like a Classroom Party or Scholastic Gift Cards.

Dear Aviators,
Hello! My name is Chloe Gordon and I am the Senior Class President of the Class of 2022. Over the past few years we, SHS Student Council, have organized a pantry and canned food drive to benefit Operation Give Back. As you know, OGB serves the families in need right here in our own community. We are delighted to partner with them again this year!
Our donation drive this year is November 8-19. We will collect:
NEW hats and gloves (all sizes)
New or gently used Coats (all sizes)
If you would like to contribute, please send all donations to school clearly marked in bags labeled: Office Staff.
Should you have any questions, please contact my Student Council adviser, Mrs. Kate Korchok (korchokk@sycamoreschools.org)
