The Right Kite
Nadya
The blue print
My group decided to build a diamond kite, my group is jasmine, and hannah, ashley and I. Its really easy to make a diamond kite because its just a cross just pushed up.
The history of kites!
The first kite was made and used in China. The wright brothers actually used a kite to test their theories for the first airplanes. The highest a kite has gone is 13,609 ft high
some of our best picture making the kite
creating and putting the kite together
ashley and hannah playing around and posing with the kite.
painting the kite
having fun with the kite and messing with colorful paint.
hand prints
taking the paint and putting our hand prints on the kite
The steps! :)
first we started with the blue print to see the measurments and how we wanted it to look. Then we got a big clear trash bag and cut off the bottom of the bag where it is closed. After that we took really light sticks and made a cross, but wait when we made a cross we scooted the sticks going across so it wasnt going to be a square it would look like the picture in the box.Next we taped all the stick straight and then taped them to the bag. Then what you have to do is turn the kite over to the side thats blank and paint it with whatever you want to make it look like.Next you get either yarn or string that you can see and tie it to the top and to the two sides the in the middle where the sticks meet.
Measurments of my beautiful colorful diamond kite!
Our kite has many meausurments. The hight of our kite is 64 and our Width is 34 cm We decided to decompose our diamond kite into four triangles. It was easier to do that cause its a diamond kite and it was easier. The surface area of the kite is 2772 cm.
Kite word problem #1
In 1820, George Pocock connected several large kites to a carriage and pulled it from Southampton to London. Since road taxes were based on the number of horses used to pull a carriage, he was able to avoid any taxes! The 60 mile trip took two hours. Modern kite buggies now go twice as fast but seldom go as far. How fast was the carriage moving? Awnser: 30 miles per hour
Kite Word Problem #2
Under the direction of Harry Osborne, the Edmonds Community College kite team kept a parafoil in the air from August 21 to August 29, 1982. Their 180 hour, 17 minute flight created a world record for duration flying. If there we eight members of the team, and each took three hour shifts watching the kite, how many shifts would each team member be responsible for?Awnser: about 7.5 shifts.
