Staying Safe with Technology
Presented by Special Guest, Stephen Michalczyk
Mark your calendars now for May 12, 2015
Our students will soon be out of school for summer. Let's be realistic, many of them will spend a lot of hours this summer on phones, tablets, and computers. They communicate with friends online in social networks, online gaming, and more. Educate yourself as a parent on how you can help your children navigate the digital world safely.
"In our ever-changing world, you can’t avoid technology, the Internet, or the criminals that use these tools. The best way to be safe is to plan ahead and know what to look for." - Stephen Michalczyk

But MY child would never do that!
We'd all like to think we have taught our children to be safe online, but in reality, Staying Safe with Technology needs to be an ongoing conversation. We, as parents, need all the help we can get to keep our children safe online. Come hear an insightful talk, and join in real conversations with other parents about this topic.
Students are getting the message too.
We are focusing on Internet Safety with the students this month too! Mr. Michalczyk will also give a talk to our older students, in 6th through 8th grades on May 12, during the school day.
We will also be working with the younger grades during their computer lab time during May to increase their awareness of Internet Safety, cyberbullying, and keeping their personal information safe online. Contact Mrs. Matteo (ematteo@notredamedenver.org)

Stephen Michalczyk
Stephen Michalczyk has spent over 20 years in the Information Technology field working for several organizations such as Park County Government, Douglas County Schools, Johnson & Wales University, and Apple. During that time, Stephen has taught classes with regards to Internet safety, network security, and various programming languages to parents and children. Stephen finds his inspiration from his wife Eileen, a teacher and school administrator, and his four kids, who have together developed a special talk for Christian parents on how to stay safe while using technology. Through research and trial-and-error, Stephen has put together an hour talk on how to stay safe with technology. This is a straight forward, no nonsense talk about the technology most people have in their homes and how to help keep your family safe when using this technology. In our ever-changing world, you can’t avoid technology, the Internet, or the criminals that use these tools. The best way to be safe is to plan ahead and know what to look for.
