Refuge Youth Weekly Update
April 6th, 2016
Burning Ones
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship."
Romans 12:1
This past Sunday we focused on the idea that we are called to be "burning ones" on fire for God. This will be a major theme of our youth ministry for the next few months and I am so excited to see how God leads us through this next season. Burning ones comes from the imagery that Paul uses in Romans 12, that we are called to be living sacrifices; in the Old Testament, sacrifices were typically burned up as they were offered to God. We are called, in everything we do to offer ourselves to God, to do everything for His glory! This is not an easy task, or something that will happen over night, but as God transforms our hearts and minds (verse 2) will be changed for His glory.
My hope and prayer for our youth ministry this next season is that we would be Burning Ones, not only living sacrifices for our King, but on fire with passion for His name. I want us to burn bright that the world around would see we are different because of the Gospel. And by this light God might reach our friends, classmates, teammates, and everyone else around us.
