WISD Education Foundation Student Scholar Athlete of the Week

Lady Roo varsity softball player Gracie Davis is this week’s Education Foundation Student Athlete of the Week.

Gracie is a senior and has been on varsity, starting at shortstop, since her freshman year.

She’s played softball since she was 4-years old with Weatherford Little League and later played select softball with the Texas Fusion Organization. Her team has played at USSSA Nationals every year since she was in junior high. She’s also played volleyball, tennis, basketball and track with Weatherford ISD through school and in Community Ed leagues.


She’s been named to the Academic All-District team since her freshman year and also earned Second Team All-District as a freshman. Other post-season awards include being named Defensive Player of the Year during her sophomore year and First Team All-District her junior year.

Gracie plans to play softball in college and pursue a degree in biology, with a goal of becoming a Physician’s Assistant.

Congratulations to Gracie Davis…this week’s Education Foundation Student Athlete of the Week!

McDonald's Scholar Athlete Scholarship Comes To WHS

Congratulations to senior Avery Bullock. She was chosen from all of north Texas as the McDonald's Scholar Athlete of the Week and was awarded with a $1000 check. Way to go, Avery!

The Texas Association for Pupil Transportation is sponsoring a Speech Contest for students in grades 9 – 12. The topic for the speech is “My School Bus, The Safest Form of Student Transportation!” The speech should be between 4 and 6 minutes long and scholarships will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Please see Ms. Hartnett in the Counseling Center if you are interested in entering the speech contest.

Outreach Club Having a Busy Fall

The Outreach Community Service Club collected about 200 school supplies for the Hurricane Harvey Relief during the month of September.


During October they collected pumpkins, and last week they invited some other students to decorate them with stickers and glitter during MegaLunch.


Last week they helped Student Council Raise money with the food booths​ and plan on raising money by face painting for the Divine Water organization that goes around Africa building water wells or people with little to no access to fresh drinking water.

News from the Fightin' Roo Marching Band

At last week's final home game (11/3) of the season against Fossil Ridge High School, The Fightin' Roo Marching Band and Color Guard pumped up the crowd with their Fall Spirit Show featuring "The Best of Michael Jackson". The band has begun preparing for Region Band auditions and their holiday concerts. ​Below are all important dates for the band program. Please come out and enjoy our last few performances of Fall 2017.

Scholarship Opportunities

EECU Glenn Mandeville Memorial Scholarship: Applications are available in the Counseling Center for the EECU Glenn Mandeville Memorial Scholarship. Six $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors. Three scholarships will be for students intending to enter the field of education and three scholarships will be given to students who are selecting careers outside the education field. The applicant or their parents must be a member of EECU. Applicants may be required to participate in a personal interview. Students will need to fill out an application and enclose a copy of their transcript with their STAAR, ACT, and SAT scores. Students will also need to enclose a letter of recommendation from a teacher and a counselor, and write an essay on “Why I Want to Attend College”. The application deadline is January 31, 2018.
