Tyngsborough Elementary School
April 22, 2019 - Update
Good Evening TES Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed spring break! It’s hard to believe that we are hitting the home stretch.
We wanted to take a moment to remind you of our scheduled MCAS testing days for grades 3-5.
April 24 - 25 - English Language Arts
May 15 -16 - Mathematics
May 8 - 9 - Science (Grade 5 ONLY)
The sessions are designed to be completed in less than an hour, however, there will be no time limit for any student. If your child is sick or needs to be absent, we will have them makeup any missed sessions at a later date.
This is supposed to be the part where I tell you that we want your child to “do their best”. We want them to demonstrate all the skills they have learned. We want each student to get a good night sleep, to eat a healthy breakfast, and to be present every day during testing. So...this week's of MCAS and every other day is no different at TES. We always want our students to do their best. We always want them to demonstrate their learning each and every day. We always want them to get a good night's sleep. We always hope they have a healthy breakfast. And we want them present, not just being in the building, but being present in their classrooms and the learning process each and every day.
Please help me spread this message to your children. We do not want our students to be anxious about taking the MCAS. We do not want them to worry about this test. We want them to be excited to show off their learning! When the test results come back, we want them to remember that whatever the score says about how they did on the reading test or how they did on the math test, to us and of course to their families, they are all so much more than a test score. These tests give us some information, but they don't give us all of the information; they don't give the true picture of who our students are. It's their hard work, showing their STRIPES, the projects, the interactions, the lessons, the mistakes, the games, the laughter, the tears, the ups and downs, and everything in between - the day-to-day wondering and learning that your kids engage in everyday, both in and out of school, that make each student unique and amazing. The testing days ahead are no different than any other day for our students in the upper elementary school. They’ve got this!
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Salmon, Associate Principal or myself.

SCHOOL SPIRIT/FIELD DAY T-SHIRT ORDERS
**ALL ORDERS MUST BE PLACED BY NOON TOMORROW (Tuesday, 4/23). Please be sure to make payment online and submit your order form to the main office.**
My sincerest apologies for any confusion I may have created with the t-shirt order forms. Please know purchasing these school spirit shirts are optional.
Preschool families recently purchased a t-shirt for the upcoming field trip. Kindergarten families recently received order forms for their Kindergarten Celebration t-shirts. In preschool and kindergarten, students are encouraged to wear these shirts on Field Day.
Please know that any student/family member can purchase the Go Tigers shirt shown below. The order forms sent home are designated by homeroom team color for field day.
Families are encouraged to pay online through UniBank. All payments can be made under the TES Enrichment Link. (*The order forms for the t-shirts should still be sent in.)

Message from the Health Office
Spring is here and the weather can be a bit unpredictable. We want to remind all our students to dress appropriately for the weather. Rain boots are good for outdoor wear. Please have your child bring a change of shoes that are comfortable and safe for school play such as sneakers. As the weather gets warmer please refrain from having your child wear flip-flops. Flip-flops are dangerous on the playground or in P.E. class.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD HAS A CHANGE OF CLOTHING IN THEIR LOCKER. THIS IS FOR ALL GRADE LEVELS. We have had many students in all grade levels needing a change of clothes for either falling in a puddle, spilling milk, ripped clothing, or having an accident. If your child has a change of clothes we will not have to call you and you will be alerted via email health office slip. If your child has received clothing from the health office please remember to return them clean. Our supply is significantly low, with a particular need for girls clothing for ages five or older (pants and shirts) and boys ages five or older (pants and underwear). If your interested in donating some gently used clothing we would greatly appreciate.
ILLNESSES: There has been a significant increase in strep being reported. There are still a few reported Flu A’s and the stomach bug, however reports of both have decreased significantly.
SEASONAL ALLERGIES: We are already seeing students with seasonal allergy symptoms. Tree pollen is high to moderately-high all this week. If your child has seasonal allergies please start them on their daily allergy medication at home.
TICKS: are already out! Please be on the lookout for ticks. Remember to check your child after outdoor play. We had a mild winter and it is predicted that there will be an increase in tick population. For more information got to: www.mass.gov/MosquitoesAndTicks
Please send a daily water bottle in for your child. Refillable or disposable are fine. We want students to stay adequately hydrated while in school. We strongly discourage water bubbler use in order to prevent the spread of illnesses.
Happy Spring!!
