WHAT IS OBESITY?
Obesity is a medical condition where a person has an extreme amount of body fat. It is most often caused by severe overeating. It can have a significant negative impact on a person's overall health. Read on for some examples of negative effects!
HEART & CIRCULATION DISEASES
Being severely overweight can cause heart-related health problems such as heart attacks, strokes, hypertension, and artery complications.
BREATHING PROBLEMS
Obesity can cause fat to press against your airways, making it difficult to breathe, which can also cause drowsiness.
DIABETES
The majority of people with Type 2 diabetes are obese. Being overweight can worsen the symptoms of this disease. Likewise, losing weight can improve those conditions.
OBESITY STATISTICS
- Nearly 20% of children ages 6 - 11 are obese
- In the 1960s, only 5% of children were considered overweight
- Teens who are overweight are 77% more likely to be overweight as adults
