A Note From Mrs. Larson
I want to take a moment to reflect on last week's tragedies and stand in solidarity with our AAPI community. The McKinley/PACS family supports you and is here if you need anything. We strive to promote equity, diversity, and inclusivity. This work is ongoing, and promoting our allyship is what makes the McKinley/PACS community so special. We encourage your input and remain committed to improving the delivery of education that supports and amplifies the AAPI community's voices.
We can do anything for 8 weeks!
Whew! We've almost made it to Spring Break! My new mantra "We can do anything for 8 weeks." Come on say it with me "We can do anything for 8 weeks."
When we return back from spring break we only have 8 weeks of the school year left. A lot of planning has gone into the return to campus. I know that I can't make the perfect schedule for everyone and that really bothers me. With 520 students to place into schedules, it has been a mighty task. We all have to make sacrifices. I just told someone that I feel like I bought a 10,000 piece puzzle which is impossible to finish. Just to clarify:
ALL FAMILIES SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED A PARENTSQUARE MESSAGE WITH YOUR CHILD'S CONDITIONAL PLACEMENT. If you have not, please check your ParentSquare messages as soon as possible.
This Thursday and Friday, our teachers will be preparing for the shift to hybrid (with a splash of DL) so your students will be working on an AMAZING Around the World 2 day adventure! There will be no Zooms and no office hours during this time. You will likely hear from your child's teacher early this week with information about what to expect on April 12th.
Additionally, I will be working on a video this week that explains drop-off, pick-up, movement around campus, safety, mask-wearing, etc.
When we shift into hybrid, we're going to need everyone to be very punctual so that our staggered arrival and departure times keep our students spread out and safe. Over the next few weeks, please take steps to prepare your family for what it looks like and feels like to be out the door on time. Our students will likely face enough uncertainty and nervousness with the return to school, so we don't want to add the additional stress of poor sleep habits, forgotten meals, and rushed car rides into the mix. Thank you in advance for helping set your child up for success!
Just to keep in mind Thursday and Friday only apply to McKinley, not PACS. Additionally, PACS classes will be released at a later time.
We are bringing our entire school community together by hosting a virtual assembly called “The EcoHero Show” which is sponsored by Zero Waste Sonoma.
The EcoHero Show is educational and empowering and features content from rap superhero and YouTuber, Mr. Eco, whose videos have 2.5 million views. The show has been performed for more than 1,200 schools reaching 600,000 students in five countries.
The show allows students to enjoy songs, dances, stories, trivia, and more. It is a live stream show, so all you need to participate at home is internet access and a device to watch the show, such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
*Safety: Students will not be able to share their individual screens or see each other. All they see is the performer’s slides and the performer giving the show. There is a private chat with comments moderated by the performers before being posted.
To participate, just click the streaming link below at our scheduled show time and enjoy!
When: Wednesday, March 24th at 10:00 am

Auction Items Needed for the Mustang Social Spring Fundraiser
This year, we will once again hold the Mustang Social Spring Fundraiser silent auction online and we want to use it as an opportunity to support businesses in Petaluma. With this goal in mind, we are inviting families who can do so to help us by donating gift cards from local businesses and other items.
Here are ways you can support this event:
- Use this Sign Up Genius link and select a local business to support by purchasing a gift card to be part of our online auction. Gift card sign ups start at $10. If there are any favorite local businesses that you’d like to support that aren’t included in this list, please feel free to drop off a gift card to that business instead.
- Donate a cash amount for us to use to purchase items from Petaluma businesses to include in the online auction
- Email email@example.com if you have any items (wine, gift baskets, art, etc.), vacation homes, experiences or buy-in event connections you can donate!
We’ll be collecting donations at the McKinley office from April 12 to April 23 (when we return from Spring Break and into hybrid learning). The auction will open on May 12 and close on May 16.

Wanted: Awesome Parents Like You
Are you looking for ways to connect with other families and help McKinley at the same time? You're in luck as we are currently recruiting PTA board members for the 2021-2022 school year. Elections will be held during our May 12th PTA meeting.
Whether your hobbies include calculating the rent costs for apartments you see on TV down to the penny, cat herding, or wandering the folder aisle at Office Depot, there is a place for you on our board.
Here are the open positions:
- Co-President (Executive Vice President--Membership)
- VP of Fundraising
- Financial Secretary
If you would like to learn more about any of the open positions next year, please email PTA Chris Lum and Ashley Fitting at firstname.lastname@example.org.
**Per 501c3 rules, we MUST have a President, Treasurer, and Secretary in order to function as a PTA.
