April 5th - April 9th

Greetings Buccaneers,

We hope you had a relaxing and peaceful Spring Break and are re-energized for our last quarter. It's hard to believe that we are approaching the end of the school year! Our students have much to learn and can look forward to many exciting events coming up before the end of the year. Here are some important updates and upcoming events:

  • Before leaving for Spring Break, the administration, counselors, and resource teachers met with all 8th graders and delivered some hopeful news. Due to the pandemic, our Board of Trustees approved a resolution to allow our current 8th graders the opportunity to participate in promotion if they pass all of their current courses. Academic grades earned for second semester of 8th grade will validate any classes that have been failed during previous semesters. This resolution only applies to our current 8th grade class. Our 7th graders will have access to summer school classes. They will be able to make up any courses failed or take acceleration courses. More information regarding these courses will become available as soon as we find out how many teachers have applied to teach summer school.

  • 97 students will be returning to in person instruction starting April 12th. On May 3rd, all of our teachers will be returning to campus. We will be able to accommodate more students who would like to have a combination of in-person and virtual instruction. (Dr. Ana Maria Alvarez, our area superintendent, sent out a letter to all of our families on Friday. I have included her letter here for your reference.)

  • We have one month before our students take their SBAC tests; our next faculty meeting will be devoted to SBAC training. It is very important that everyone is present at our next meeting. Remember, everyone will be administering the SBAC test during the week of May 10th - May 14th.

  • Our students in AP Spanish will be taking their AP exams on May 21. They are our first generation of middle school students taking an AP exam. We are so proud of what they have accomplished!

Finally, we continue to reinforce to our Buccaneer Scholars the importance of perseverance, this month's word of the month, and the importance of staying focused. We still have a great deal of teaching and learning taking place over the next two months.

May we have a wonderful fourth quarter!

Your Principal,

Ms. Gracias
