Please remember that these courses are for Non-Contract Credit. The content and assignments for the courses are expected to be completed outside of the regular work day.
Online Workshop Options
BYOD Assessment Tools
Online Course: This course is an ONLINE technology workshop conducted through the Staff Learning Hub.
Are you interested in using BYOD in your classroom but don't quite know how to harness devices for student assessment? Through this course, explore several different options for assessing students using their (and school provided) devices. Participants will design and implement an assessment. It is recommended for participants to have access to a mobile device (smartphone, tablet, iPad, etc) similar to what your students may be using in your classroom. You will receive login instructions on the first day of the course and then will have a 4 week time-frame to complete the coursework and implement your assessment. No partial credit will be granted.

Google 1 (for Beginning Users)
Are you ready to dive in and learn what all this “Google stuff” is about? Explore the basics of your Google Drive account including creating, uploading, converting, sharing, organizing and downloading files. We’ll share ways of using Google Drive with your students and also play around with some Google search features. Participants must have access to a computer/laptop with full Google Drive capability and will have 2 weeks to complete the course at their own pace.

Google 2 (for Intermediate Users)
Online Course: This course is an ONLINE technology workshop conducted through the FISD Staff Learning Hub.
Do you have a basic understanding of how to create, convert, share and download files in Google Drive but want to learn more of what your FISD Google Apps account can do for you and your students? In this course we will create and discuss the use of Forms in your class as well as explore some helpful Google Drive scripts and tools. We’ll also learn the basics of Google Sites and explore the Chrome Web Store. Participants must have access to a computer/laptop with full Google Drive capability and will have 3 weeks to complete the course at their own pace.

Google 3 (for Advanced Users)
Online Course: This course is an ONLINE technology workshop conducted through the FISD Staff Learning Hub.
This course is for users who are comfortable with using Google Drive and are interested in seeing what else our FISD Google Apps accounts can do. We will share experiences of using Google Drive with students and co-workers and explore several apps available through the Chrome Web Store. We will set-up and discuss your YouTube channel and discuss the ins and outs of using Drive on mobile devices. Participants must have access to a computer/laptop with full Google Drive capability and will have 3 weeks to complete the course at their own pace.

Moodle 1 (for Beginners) - For LSHS & SOC
Online Course: This course is an ONLINE technology workshop conducted through the FISD Staff Learning Hub.
Learn how to get started in the Learning Hub by learning to navigate in the system and use its basic functionality to build courses. This course focuses on skills for new Learning Hub users and includes topics such as managing files, creating resources, and enrolling students. This course also covers how to access settings, add videos to increase engagement, use communication tools and course management.
*NOTE: After registering for the course, you must first attend a 20 minute session with Jeff Wiseman who will show you how to navigate the course prior to beginning work on the course.

Learning Hub for Intermediate Users (Moodle 2)
Build on your knowledge of The Learning Hub by learning how to use gradebook, create graded activities and assignments, and use interactive modules such Forums, Glossaries, and Quizzes. This course focuses on best practices and making your class more interactive. All course submissions are due completed by Fri, Dec. 19. No partial credit will be granted.

Web 2.0: It's More than Just Blogs, Wikis and Podcast
Interested in learning the what's and why's about Web 2.0 and how it may be applied into your classroom curricula? Join us for this online book study guided by the book, Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms (3rd edition) by Will Richardson.
The primary objective for this staff development is to educate teachers by the means of utilizing various Web 2.0 tools. Please note: We will be concentrating, specifically on the following chapters of the aforementioned book: The Read/Write Web, RSS Feed Readers, The Social Web & Social Network, Fun with Flickr, What it is All About, as well as other useful web tools for the classroom. At this time, we will NOT be covering the chapters on Blogs, Wikis, or Podcasting.
In addition, this staff development will provide opportunities for educators to expand their understanding of the Web 2.0 tools, allowing them to take full advantage of the power of the Read/Write Web as well as realizing the potential use of these tools to enhance student knowledge.
