Dear KAS Community,
Congratulations to our Class of 2021! On Friday, June 4 we recognized the achievements of our graduates in an online graduation ceremony. The KAS Class of 2021 has overcome so much, and is well prepared to move forward to amazing things. While at KAS they have not only prepared for success in university and beyond, but they have grown into wonderful individuals who will carry the Dragon spirit with them wherever they go. The Class of 2021 has some incredible opportunities ahead of them, with acceptances to many great universities like Barnard College, Johns Hopkins, UC Berkeley, Georgia Tech, every school in the UC system, Purdue, NYU, USC, and many more.
Barnard College, Johns Hopkins, UC Berkeley, Georgia Tech, every school in the UC system, Purdue, NYU, USC,
To our Class of 2021, we wish you the best as you go forth into the world. You are now KAS alumni, and you are forever a part of the KAS legacy. Please visit us whenever you can and let us know how you are doing.

As we close this 2020-21 school year we want to thank our students, families, faculty, and staff for your efforts in these recent weeks as we have moved our learning to an online format. We are happy that we have all been able to stay safe and healthy. Still, we recognize that this has been a very difficult time for everybody, and we are heartened by how the KAS community has come together to support each other. Special thanks to KAS parents for your strong support during online learning.
After the global challenges from 2020-21, we all began this year hopeful that 2021-22 would bring a semblance of ‘normal.’ And it did, sort of. This was the year that our Dragons basketball team triumphantly ended the multi-year winning streak of one of our athletic rivals. This was the year that Yo-Yo Ma shared stories and played his cello for students. This was the year that students in our Model United Nations club joined together with students from around Taiwan to create BIG solutions to BIG problems, even though MUN events elsewhere around the world were postponed.
But still, this was not a normal year. Throughout our community we faced loss and grief, day to day uncertainty, and even isolation as we could not travel to visit family and friends and participate in international events. These challenges affected not just students but our entire community.
However, these struggles pushed us to realize how much we can count on each other for support. Time and time again we helped out a friend in need, listened to a family member or peer when they needed to be heard, and looked for ways to help however possible. This shows the strength of the Dragon spirit and the Dragon community. Dragons overcome challenges together because we know we are stronger together.
For those Dragons who will not return to KAS, we wish you the best in the future. For Dragons who will return to KAS, our first day of school will be August 6. If you travel this summer, it is important that you complete your quarantine and self health management before coming to school on August 6.
As of today we expect to start our school year in person on August 6. Our Response Team and Board of Directors will continue to monitor the situation over the summer, and we will reach out to the community should anything change.
We wish our entire Dragon community a safe and healthy summer.
Best,
Dr. Ploeger, Superintendent
Ms. Rock, High School Principal
Mr. Payne, Middle School Principal
Mr. Coyle, Elementary School Principal
A Message from the KAS Board of Directors
Dear KAS Community,
At the last Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association, a group of KAS community members submitted a petition to the KAS Board of Directors requesting changes to the School Charter. The Board of Directors discussed the petition at the June 7th regularly scheduled Board meeting and decided to meet with an outside expert in international school governance for guidance on this issue. We hope to discuss this issue with the expert during the Board’s governance training planned for this August. The Board takes suggested changes to the Charter seriously. We want to address parent concerns and make sure that our governance rules are serving the needs of the school.
The Board is also planning to host a parent-board forum this coming fall semester to hear directly from the parent community about any concerns they may have about the school and Board oversight. We appreciate your patience as we all work toward an ever-brighter future for KAS!
Sincerely
KAS Board of Directors

Congratulations to our IB Diploma graduates. These dedicated students have fulfilled the requirements for the prestigious and challenging IB Diploma Program: rigorous curriculum standards that include critical thinking, oral presentations, and true conceptual understanding of college-level material, a 4,000 word research paper, many hours and reflection on personal activities and community service, philosophical thinking and writing, and hours of difficult and long exams. It has been said that a student will find freshman year of college just a little easier than the IB Program! You have persevered, worked hard, sacrificed, and struggled to meet the demands to be an IB Diploma graduate. You have proven yourselves worthy. Now go forth and conquer!
