Library of Souls, third novel of Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar children
“Time is running out for the Peculiar Children. With a dangerous madman on the loose and their beloved Miss Peregrine still in danger, Jacob Portman and Emma Bloom are forced to stage the most daring of rescue missions. They'll travel through a war-torn landscape, meet new allies, and face greater dangers than ever. Features more than 50 all-new Peculiar photographs.” We of course have books 1 & 2. Here is the trailer for Library of Souls.
The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
Ms. Hyatt gives this book a 5 star review and says, “This is a clever, suspenseful and imaginative story about a runaway slave named Cora, who, pursued by a vengeful slave catcher, must keep traveling north via the underground railroad. Whitehead creates a literal underground railroad, complete with trains and conductors, which makes for a fun twist on convention, as does his play with time and historical events. Cora is a compelling character, and we can't help but root for her as she tries to build a life of freedom for herself. Highly recommended--this book was just put on the National Book award long list for good reason.”
Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet Vol. 1 by Ta-Nehisi Coates
“A new era begins for the Black Panther! MacArthur Genius and National Book Award-winning writer Ta-Nehisi Coates (Between the World and Me) takes the helm, confronting T'Challa with a dramatic upheaval in Wakanda that will make leading the African nation tougher than ever before.” Watch Coates describe writing the comic.
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
One of this year’s Green Mountain Book Award nominees. Action packed fantasy set in a Roman Empire inspired world. Two stories alternate: Elias, a warrior trained from boyhood and Laia, a poor scholar. They each have a secret life threatening agenda. Yes, there is a cliffhanger that sets up a sequel and yes, I am in! Check out the book trailer.
Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven
All the Bright Places, was one of my favorite books last year, so I was very excited to hear that Jennifer Niven was releasing a new book. Described as “This year’s most unconventional love story.” The Guardian writes, “If you’re looking for the next The Fault in Our Stars. This is it.” Book Trailer.
My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton & Jodi Meadows
“The comical, fantastical, romantical, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey. In My Lady Jane, coauthors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows have created a one-of-a-kind fantasy in the tradition of The Princess Bride, featuring a reluctant king, an even more reluctant queen, a noble steed, and only a passing resemblance to actual history—because sometimes history needs a little help.”
