WYHS Weekly Update
For the Week of December 9-14, 2019
ATTENTION 8th - 11th Graders!!!!!!
Did you know it is possible to take college classes for free at Whitehall City Schools?
The staff at Whitehall City Schools has been working hard to ensure our students have the skills they need to be remediation free for College or Career after they graduate. We have expanded college access at the middle and high school levels. During your student’s academic experience, we will be offering several college credit plus courses through Columbus State.
Students taking these classes will have the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit at no cost to the family. This course will be embedded into their schedule at Rosemore Middle School or Whitehall-Yearling High School. In order to participate, there are some housekeeping items that will need to occur for your student to be eligible:
- Apply to Columbus State Community College (CSCC) – Your student will need to go to www.cscc.edu/admissions/apply.shtml. Once on this page, he or she will click “College Credit Plus” and click “Apply Now.” This will take your student to the appropriate application with next steps to complete the application.
- After accepted: Take the Accuplacer Placement Exam – Students interested in taking any courses through College Credit Plus at Columbus State Community College (CSCC) must take the entrance exam for CSCC. The Accuplacer is adaptive (it gets more difficult as you answer more questions correctly), and it tests students in Reading and Writing. There is a math placement test, but it is not required for all courses. We will schedule a day for your student to take the placement test at Rosemore or WYHS. Students must have their cougar ID to take the exam, which will be emailed to them within a few days after completing the application to CSCC.
- Submit a College Credit Plus Registration Consent Form – This form gives permission for students to register for classes, but it does not register the student for the class. Students taking any class for college credit will need to submit this form to Mrs. Harper at Rosemore or Mrs. Wilson at WYHS.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your student’s school counselor, Kelley Harper (Rosemore) at harperk@wcsrams.org or contact Alisha Wilson (WYHS) at wilsona@wcsrams.org.
