We Live the Word!

From the Principal's Desk

Dear FJVD Families,

Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields

and keeping the night watch over their flock.
The angel of the Lord appeared to them
and the glory of the Lord shone around them,
and they were struck with great fear.
The angel said to them,
"Do not be afraid;
for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy
that will be for all the people.
For today in the city of David
a savior has been born for you who is Christ and Lord.
And this will be a sign for you:
you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes
and lying in a manger."
And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel,
praising God and saying:
"Glory to God in the highest
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."

-Luke 2:8-14

I want to take this opportunity to wish each and every Doyle family a very blessed and restful Christmas recess. May the Lord grant you abundant peace and joy this Christmas season, and may you receive many blessings in the new year!

A few announcements for the Christmas recess:

  • If you have not already done so, I invite you to take a few minutes over the break to provide us with some feedback on how the year is going so far by responding to our parent survey. You can find the survey here: http://bit.ly/FJVDParentSurvey All survey responses are anonymous, and your feedback will help guide the continued enhancement of our school. Thank you for your participation and candid responses!

The Nurse's Corner

Important Reminders for the Winter Season:

  • Please call the school when your child is absent and let us know the reason. Please call rather than emailing the classroom teacher, as this allows us to keep up to date attendance. This let's us know your child is safe at home with you. In addition, if your child has an illness that is contagious, such as strep throat, it is important that we are able to notify other parents that their child may have been exposed to an illness and to watch for signs & symptoms.

  • Now that the COLD weather has arrived, please ensure your child has appropriate cold weather attire (i.e. hats, mittens). So long as the temperature is considered safe, students will go outside for recess to get fresh air and play. The RI Department of Education states that outdoor recess should be 15-20 minutes (1-2 times a day) outside as long as the temperature is 32 degrees or above with the wind chill factored in.

Volunteer Opportunities

Yearbook Volunteers Needed!

We are currently looking for parent volunteers interested in assisting with our Yearbook efforts. This would include taking and collecting photographs, designing pages, and working together with our Lifetouch representatives to construct the yearbook itself. Good news! Lifetouch has moved to a more user-friendly design program. Little to no technical experience is required!

If you or someone you know may be interested in assisting with our Yearbook, please contact the school!

Aluminum Can Tab Collection

What: Aluminum can tabs are being collected

Why: To support the Ronald McDonald House in Providence

How can you help? Save can tabs and send them in to Mr. Godin’s room.

Bottle Cap Drive

We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This opens up

Father John V. Doyle School to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.

All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.

Thank you!
