Mrs. Baker's Class Newsletter
Feb. 1st 2018
What is going on?
Alert-The Six Flags and Shlitterbahn's Reading Logs are due soon. We made a class goal that everyone in our class participate. Even if you don't like theme parks, please participate for the class. In the past we have donated tickets to needy families or the Baptist Children's Home. It is a win win for all parties!
Reading/Writing: : We will continue to explore the genre of poetry. We will describe how rhyme, rhythm, and repetition interact to create images in poetry, as well as, how poets use sensory language to communicate meaning. Our last week of poetry study we will be looking at the topic of a poem and answering comprehension questions on a variety of poems. We will be creating a poetry book of our original poems.
Spelling and Grammar:
Spelling words this week: between, drink, giving, left, part, ran, start, way
This week in grammar we will continue working with adjectives, focusing on those that compare.
Science: We will look at the way seasons affect the weather, activities and clothes we wear. We will also look at natural disasters and the areas that are affected the most by them.
Math: We have practiced and practiced addition and subtraction for two weeks! Now we will apply our knowledge to word problems. We will solve addition and subtraction word problems, multi-step word problems, missing number words problems, and word problems with unimportant information in them. Students should start independently being able to choose how to solve their problems of the day and show their work.
