Edgar Allen Poe
Joshua S. Naumann
Early, Early Life
Edgar Allen Poe was born to a family of traveling actors on January 19, 1809. Poe was the second of three children; he had a brother and a sister. When Poe was only three years old, both of his parents were dead. Poe was brought to the family of John and Frances Allen; his siblings were seperated, and were brought to different families.
College
In Poe's college years he excelled in his classes, but drowned in debt. For starters, Mr. Allen only gave Poe less than even a third for what he needed. On top of that, Poe tried to gamble to gain money, but failed to do so, and ended up so poor that he had to burn anything made of wood to stay warm.
The Rest is History
After some more depressing tragedies happening, Poe went on to become an author, and married his cousin, who was only 13. This is weird for us now, but it wasn't then, apparently. She also died the same way that his mother died; tuberculosis. Edgar Allen Poe died at the age of 40 for strange reasons.
