Principal Post
Roosevelt Families,
Thank you to our families for working so hard to support students as we transition to distance learning. This is uncharted territory for us all. As we enter next week, please continue to work through the daily assignments in the packet with your child. You may have already heard from your child's teacher that interactive ZOOM sessions are being planned to begin next week. These sessions are completely optional and are meant to be a way to check-in and stay connected with school. Teachers are so excited to connect with their students and facilitate students being able to connect with each other again! Below are some links and documents that may be helpful as your family embarks on this virtual journey:

Talking With Your Child
A Note from Ms. Good:
Dear Roosevelt Families and Students,
Everyday that we are practicing social distancing I am looking for things that make me smile. I want you to know that you are one those thoughts and of course I smile! I am so grateful to be your teacher and I have loved creating fun and engaging experiences for us to enjoy together. You are still on my mind daily as I picture you being active and staying healthy. Hopefully we will all be back in the gym together soon! Until then, lI am sharing some great ideas with you to stay active, healthy and learning! I will be sharing more ideas with you through emails and during class meetings with your classroom teacher.
If I can do anything to help you please let me know by email at rgood@k12k.com.
Please remember, before anything else, Mrs. Good loves you and cares about you! I am looking forward to being with you again and you are always in my heart, thoughts, and prayers.
Love and hugs,
Mrs. Good
Get the Whole the Family Moving at Home
Finding ways to be more active around the house sets a good example for kids and can help you stay on top of housework. You can combine exercise with other activities, like watching TV, cleaning or cooking.
- Make active chore cards. Let each family member draw a card each day with a different active task that needs to be done. Cleaning up after dinner, walking the dog, taking the trash out, folding laundry and unloading the dishwasher are all good ways to get your family up off the couch – and get the chores done.
- Clear some space, put on some music, and take a dance break! It can re-energize a study session, lazy Sunday or game night. Let each person take a turn as DJ so everyone’s favorites get played.
- Put the screens on hold. Instead of heading right for the TV or game console after dinner, make that family activity time. Take a walk, practice a sport, or play a game of hide-and-seek. Include active games in family game night, like Twister, charades and hide-and-seek.
- Choose toys for your kids that encourage physical activity, such as balls, skateboards, hula hoops and jump ropes.
A Message from Ms. Blanton
Dear Roosevelt Students And Families,
I miss you all, and I pray you are all staying well! We will be back together before you know it! Like me, I am sure you are disappointed that we did not get to have our Spring Book Fair. It just means we will look forward to our Fall Book Fair in October even more. Many of you have books from our library at home. Read them as much as you like, but please keep up with them by putting them in a safe place, so you can return them when we are back at school. We will have many new books when you get back, and I am excited to share them with you! In the meantime, I wanted to remind you of some awesome resources that will keep you reading while you are at home.
Reading
Sora - KCS purchases digital books for our students to check out online and read directly on a phone or computer. The website is www.soraapp.com On the website, find Kingsport City Schools. Students in 3rd - 5th know their login information. It is the same as logging into their Chrome Books. PreK – 2nd have an account on Sora as well. Their username is the first four letters of their first name, middle initial, and last name. Their password is the first three letters of their last name and their five-digit student identification number. An example for a student named Susan B. Smith would be: UN – susabsmith and PW – smi55555. I will leave my email down below if you have any questions or need me to find your username and password. I have access is this information. Sora is also available as an App on your phone or via the website. Check it out! The selection is impressive. If you have a Kingsport Library Card, you can access even more great books by adding it as a public library.

UN – continue
PW – reading
Again, please contact me with any questions you may have. We can communicate by phone and can even meet virtually if you would like to share what you’ve been reading, coding, researching, or creating. Reach out to me first by email at mblanton@k12k.com
Love to All,
Mrs. Blanton
A word from Mr. Hines
Below are some fun art ideas to keep you busy during our time of social distancing. There are some that require technology and some that do not.
- Make a drawing that covers an entire page. Include many colors and details. No white, unused space. Then draw a puzzle outline over the drawing and cut into puzzle pieces for other family members to put together.
- Make a board game. Draw or make game pieces out of found items. Draw the game board. Write out the rules. Draw the cards used in the game.

Notes from Ms. Farmer
First, I just want to say how much I miss each one of you and I cannot wait to see you! You are in my thoughts and prayers daily! I hope you and your family are staying well during this time! For the next few weeks, we will all be learning a new way, so please be patient as I try my best to teach music from a distance!
Here are some ways that you can work on music skills at home without technology:
Listen and respond to music, using whole body listening!
Pat the steady beat
Find a rhythm you hear and clap it. Try to write down the rhythm pattern you heard. (For example: “We Will Rock You” by Queen has a regular rhythm pattern, ti-ti ta ti-ti ta)
Listen to different styles of music. You can listen to some of the musicians/composers that we have studied in class this year, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Elvis Presley, Bessie Smith, Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Edvard Grieg, and J.S. Bach. Listening to different musical styles helps you become a well-rounded musician!
Find some instruments around the house or in your yard. Get creative! Grab two sticks from the yard and you now have rhythm sticks! Large pots or buckets make great drums! Make sure you get your parent’s permission first before using the cookware! ☺
Compose an 8-beat rhythm pattern. Practice speaking the rhythm first. Then, use body percussion to play it while you say it. Next, play it on your newly found instrument!
With Technology and Your Parent's Permission:
With your parent’s permission, you can access Quaver online to watch videos, play games, and compose your own songs! I will add assignments to this as well. They are not graded. They are to keep those music skills sharp while we are out of school. Go to quavermusic.com. Click on Login at the top of the page. Enter class code at the bottom where it says, “Sign in with Google”. You will need to have a Google account to proceed. Google accounts are free. Ask your parents for help with this; they may have a Google account they will let you use for Quaver. Kindergarten and 1st grade: XVKMF 2nd and 3rd grade: EUN2L 4th and 5th grade: TQ5VW It will ask if you have visited Quaver Music before, click ‘No’. On the main screen, click the student tab at the bottom. Click join a class and there you will enter the same access code as above. From there, you can access all the student interactives, creatives, Quaver books, and assignments once I have assigned them. Have Fun! If you have any questions, feel free to email me anytime, afarmer@k12k.com. I am here for you all! You can also follow our music class on Twitter, @TRES_Music, to stay connected! Chorus members join us on the Remind App, if you have not already. Text @tresbi to 81010. Love and Virtual Hugs, Mrs. Farmer Music Teacher/Chorus Director
