Sample Goals & Educator Plan
Here are two sample goals and corresponding educator plans for you to look at. I've included them on a Google Doc template that you can copy.
(1) Sample Student Learning Goal -- SEL Focus
This goal is one that is being used by some teachers in the high school this year. Lisa Mobley, the high school principal, shared it with me in case you would like to do something similar.
(2) Sample Professional Practice Goal -- Mathematics Focus, Increasing Productive Student Discourse
This goal is one that I wrote with my former math coaches for teachers who were working to increase productive student math talk in their classroom. If you are working on implementing a new instructional strategy in your classes and are interested in digitally recording and analyzing the effectiveness of the strategy, this goal can easily be adapted to meet your needs.
District Strategic Planning Goals
- Goal 1: Ensure rigorous and relevant 7-12 curricula that fosters active engagement and depth of understanding.
- Goal 2: Develop a supportive learning community through a social emotional initiative to encourage the healthy development of all students.
- Goal 3: Grow and sustain a mutually supportive and trusting relationship with stakeholder groups for the benefit of the mission and vision of the KPRSD and sustain a positive connection with and among the community at large.
- Goal 4: Provide and enhance the integration of technology resources available to staff and students.
- Goal 5: Develop and sustain effective and efficient use of resources to focus on continuous improvement, support student learning, and fiscal responsibility.
How much evidence is necessary?
Over this school year, the middle and high school administrators will be meeting with the district administration to make sure that we have the same expectations for the district as a whole for next year and moving forward. For this school year, we will stick to the guideline mentioned above -- two pieces of quality evidence per indicator.
Collection of Evidence
PTS Teachers on Self Directed Growth Plans are on two year cycles. Data collection is as follows:
- 1st year - Standards I and II; and
- 2nd year - Standards III and IV.
Non-PTS Teachers:
- 1st half of year - Standards I and II; and
- 2nd half of year - Standards III and IV.
Observations - What to expect?
An observation is a data gathering process that includes notes and judgments made during a classroom visit of a minimum of fifteen (15) minutes (for unannounced observations) or twenty (20) minutes (for announced observations). The visit may include examination of artifacts of practice including student work.
For an observation, the Evaluator shall place a folded color index card in his/her area at the beginning of the observation. Upon exiting the observation, the Evaluator shall place the colored index card on the Educator's desk.
The Educator shall sign the Observation report form within seven (7) school days of its receipt. The Educator’s signature does not indicate agreement or disagreement with its content. The Educator may include a written response within ten (10) school days of the receipt of the feedback, with the exception of Educators on directed growth or improvement plans, who shall have five (5) school days to respond. The timeline begins for both parties on the day after receipt.
