Getting Ready for Outdoor Ed!
at Thousand Pines Outdoor Science School
Kids Love Mail
Mail is delivered on Wednesday and Thursday only during our short visit to Thousand Pines Outdoor Science School. Even though they are only gone for a short while, they still love receiving mail, especially when their peers are receiving them as well.
You can mail them ahead of time (at least a couple of days in advance) and the center will hold it for them. Or, you're more than welcome to deliver the letters to your homeroom teacher and they can deliver them for you. Please write on the envelope the day you would like each letter delivered, if you have a preference.
Please be aware that only letters, and not packages, may be sent.
Student's Name
Canyon View Elementary School
P.O. Box 3288
Crestline, CA 92325
The students will also have plenty of opportunities to write back to you or other loved ones about their experiences. We recommend sending with them self-addressed, stamped envelopes, so they don't forget to stamp it or have to remember an address.
Outdoor Ed Blog
Our Outdoor Ed blog can be accessed at:
(will be updated over the break)
Each night, we will be providing a brief summary of the day and offering some quotes, pictures, and/or anecdotes from the kids.
The portions of the site featuring the students are password protected and the password you will need is: livebig
Blog posts will appear sometime in the late evening, depending on the internet connection speed. Imagine being back in the 90s, downloading a file, and your sister picks up the phone which disconnects you and you have to redo the file. That's pretty much how slow and spotty our connection is, so it often takes many tries to upload and we can't do as many pictures as we hope to do.
Come Follow Us!
Besides our end of the day blogs, there will be a few other ways that you can follow the adventures of your child next week at Outdoor Ed. They are our Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook feeds found at these websites:
http://www.facebook.com/cvoutdoored
http://instagram.com/cvoutdoored
https://twitter.com/cvoutdoored
These feeds will be often text only (because of the limited connection), with pictures of the activities.
If you have a Facebook account, you can “like” the Facebook page and the news items will appear in your news feed. If you don’t have an account, you can still access the web page.
Similarly, if you have an Instagram account, you can "follow" the cvoutdoored account, or if you do not have an account, can just visit the page periodically.
Send us a generic (not to a specific person) tweet and we'll try to respond! For example, "How is the weather?" or "Show us a picture from the hike."
This will allow you to receive brief updates throughout the week, such as our bus rides, when we arrive/depart, and other activities and anecdotes. You can even subscribe to the feeds and receive the updates straight to your phone.
Please bear in mind that when we're not posting, that's because we're having too much fun!
For the Twitter feed, you also don’t need an account and can access the webpage. However, if you do, you can receive a notification to your phone each time a news item appears by following these couple steps:
1) Click the “Follow” button
