Birthday Celebrations

At GES, we want to honor your child's birthday with a birthday pencil from the office and something special from his or her teacher. If you want to send something for the class, please send non-food items such as special pencils, erasers, stickers, glow sticks, etc. Food treats for birthdays will not be allowed.

Beginning in September, it is the policy of GES that iPads and chargers will be going home every night and weekend unless parents notify the teacher directly that they do not want the iPad sent home. Please let your child's teacher know ASAP if you DO NOT want your child's iPad to come home nightly. At no point in the year will your child's teacher require him or her to have an iPad at home to complete homework or any other at-home projects. Apps are downloaded at school only; no app store is available at home.

Learning to Tie Shoes

If your child has shoes that tie, please work with them at home to learn to tie them. Shoes untie a lot at school because we are moving often. Thank you for helping us promote this level of independence with your child.

We will have a brief snack time every afternoon. It is very important that you send your child with a snack DAILY. We have a very early lunchtime and their little tummies need a snack before the end of the school day. Please follow the guidelines below in sending a snack for your child:

  • No nut products for snack (nut products for lunch are fine)
  • Snack needs to be dry and not require any utensils (ex. please no yogurt, applesauce, fruit cup, etc)
  • No candy or soda

Label Your Items

Please take the time to label ALL of your child's personal items. This will hopefully ensure that all of your things return home to you each day. Please write first and last names, or first initial and last name, on backpacks, lunch boxes, jackets, sweaters, and hats (when weather gets cooler).

Extra set of clothes

To prepare for a spill or accident, please make sure your child always has a clean set of clothes in a plastic bag within his or her backpack.
