From the Principal
On Tuesday, we will be kicking off our Gourmet Food and Gift Fundraiser. This is our only fundraiser of the school year. The flower sale in the spring is sponsored by PTO. We will be sending home all the information with your student. Our goal is to raise as much money as possible so that we can fund playground equipment and field trips. You can help us by getting started early with online selling and share the fundraiser. Simply go to Fundprizes.com to register and share the fundraiser with 7 people today. Your student will earn a prize for completing this task that they will hear about at the fundraiser kick-off on Tuesday. Stay tuned for additional information and be sure to check your student's backpack on Tuesday.
Parent -Teacher conferences are coming up on November 1st and 3rd. You should be receiving more information from your student's teacher about scheduling a time to meet. There will be 2 options for conferences: come to Monroe for an in-person conference or an online conference through Zoom.
Fall parties will take place on Friday, October 28th. Due to safety and capacity challenges we are limiting our visitors inside the building to 8 guests per classroom sign-up (room parents are not included in this count). This allows the opportunity for all parents, if they want, to attend at least one party. We have three parties planned this school year: Fall, Winter, and Friendship Day. We know that parties are a wonderfully fun experience, but we have to ensure that it is a safe experience too! Teachers will be sending out sign-ups for classroom parties.
Below are the details that we respectfully ask staff and community members to follow:
Parties will begin at 2:30pm.
Weather permitting, students will be having a character costume parade starting at 3:00pm. All families can attend this parade, and it will be outside along the front sidewalk.
If there is inclement weather (storming, downpour, etc.) the parade will be canceled.
After the parade, we will have a normal dismissal. Students will return to their classrooms and wear their costumes home. We are asking families not to sign students out early.
Parking is very limited. If parking on school grounds, do not park near the bus loop, as it is our emergency vehicle entrance, and bus dismissal must not be interrupted. Safety is our first priority, so please have patience as we dismiss students at the end of the day.
A few details about your child's character costume:
Please make sure masks do not prevent students from safely participating in the parade.
Costumes should be " merry not scary.”
Please do not send costume accessories that are not school appropriate (weapons, swords, scary, etc.)
There will be limited time for your child to change into their costume, so please keep the costumes simple and easy for students to put on independently.
Students should not bring make-up, because of limited time.
Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow. Have a great long weekend!

Thank You Pleasant Valley Fire Department!
Monroe Elementary is a Title One school. What does that mean?
Scholastic Book Fair
We will be having a Scholastic Book Fair on October 31st-November 4th. Your child is welcome to bring money to purchase books during their library times during that week. We will be having a parent event on November 1st and 3rd during parent teacher conferences for anyone interested in shopping at our book fair. Scholastic has great books at reasonable prices and Monroe Elementary gets a portion of the sales.
If you are interested in volunteering to help in our book fair, please contact the school. We are looking for parent volunteers for both evening events.
In the past, there have been donations collected for students to purchase a book that might not be able to. If you are interested in donating, please send your donation to the school office.
If you have Facebook, please like the Monroe Elementary page so you can get updates.

From Ms. Allen- School Counselor
Some things grownups can do to reduce the negative effects of horror movies:
1. Monitor what your student is watching
2. Utilize parental control on TVs and computers
3. Talk with children about their fears
4. Don't be afraid to set limits if your child wants to watch something you do not find appropriate.
Common Sense media is a great site to read about movies and reviews before your child watches something. They have a list specifically for scary movies https://www.commonsensemedia.org/lists/scary-movies-for-kids
