A Message from Principal Sarlos
Dear Coyote Families,
I was able to go into many virtual classrooms this morning and say Hello to your students. Teachers and students alike were working hard and being cheerful! Several classrooms were talking about our theme of the month: Courage. It was lovely to hear the kids talk about things they have done that take courage. I would like to say to all of you that I believe it takes great courage to parent at this time with the way the pandemic and the fires are impacting all of our lives. Thank you for having so much courage as you support your children and our system as we persist in trying to make this online schooling the best it can be.
I am optimistic seeing all the student and teacher faces this morning that we will get there. I also had the chance to hear some students share writing which was lovely!
Secondly, in a message from Dr, De la Cruz earlier this week, she pointed out that this is Hispanic Heritage Month. Here are some resources you may find helpful in addressing Hispanic heritage and legacy in our nation this month:

I hope the rain will truly clear our air and your kids will be able to play outside this weekend!
As always, thanks for your patience, flexibility, and grace.
Warmly,
Principal Sarlos
Reminder Message from OCE School Counseling Team
Dearest OCE Families and Students,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! We are so excited to be back connecting with students and families. As you all know, this will be a school year unlike any that has come before. This requires new ways of teaching and learning, and our Lake Oswego School Counseling Programs are no exception. Oury job as school counselors is to support the social, emotional and academic success of all students in our school and online community. Please know that while there may be struggles ahead as we navigate this new platform for teaching and learning, we are truly in this together!
School counseling is a very relationship-driven endeavor, which can be very challenging in a distance learning and hybrid learning environment. To help facilitate connection, LOSD school counselors are making efforts to be as accessible as possible for students and parents. We have added Zoom to our technology tools for virtual meetings with both students and families.
If you would like to request a meeting or phone call from us, please use this form to submit your request:
Grades: K-1 Request to Connect with Ms. Pope or by email at popej@loswego.k12.or.us
Grades 2-5 Request to Connect with Ms. Thompson or by email thompsod@loswego.k12.or.us.
We are also fortunate to have an amazing graduate level School Counseling intern with us this Fall - Brittney Harmon. She will assist us with student sessions and community outreach as we embark on this new school year together.
Social Emotional Learning opportunities will continue for our Coyotes. Each month we will explore the following character traits together: Social Emotional Learning opportunities will continue for our Coyotes. Each month we will explore the following character traits together: Courage, Kindness, Respect, Empathy, Perseverance, Responsibility, Gratitude, Cooperation, Honesty, Creativity.
Look out for more information on our September trait, Courage!
Starting Monday, September 14th at 8am, we will be posting weekly lessons in our Google Classrooms. Check out our new Virtual World for full access to our lessons, resources to set up your own Calming (Peace) Corner at home, additional activities to try throughout the week, Counselor contact request form, LOSD and Community resources, and so much more!
Additionally, please click on the following link for additional family support resources: OCE Family Support Resources
Thank you for your patience and perseverance during these times. Together, we can support all students at Oak Creek Elementary. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need additional support.
Sincerely,
OCE Counseling Team
