CGE February Newsletter
Principal's Message
Hello CGE Families and Friends,
Parent/Teacher conferences are on February 20 and February 27. This is such a valuable component of your child’s education. Teachers look forward to sharing your child’s growth, as well as, any challenges that he/she is facing. It is an opportunity for you to ask questions and offer suggestions that will lead to increased academic achievement. Unfortunately, we are on a tight time schedule on these evenings (15 minutes per conference), so if you feel that you may need additional time please contact your child’s teacher to schedule a different time to meet.
South Washington County Schools Kindergarten enrollment is now open! If you have an incoming Kindergarten student please go to the following link. It is so important to enroll your kindergartner as soon as possible so that we can staff according to our enrollment:
https://sowashco.org/departments/student_information/enrolling_your_student/kindergarten_enrollment
Our Kindergarten Open House will be on April 30th from 4:30-6:00 P.M. This will be an informal opportunity for you to tour the school, visit the kindergarten classrooms and meet the kindergarten teachers. Hope to see you there!
If you have any questions please feel free to contact our office coordinator, Judy Nicklay at 651-425-5801.
Sincerely,
Theresa

Love to Read Month
I Love to Read Month is just around the corner and we have another new and fantastic theme: The Reading Rodeo to the students and staff at CGES.
We will have weekly reading slips through the month of February. Slips will be given out on Monday by the classroom teacher and collected the following Monday in the Media Center.
Here are the weekly themes
Week #1 Feb 3-7th
“Giddy Up with a Good Book!”
Week #2 Feb 10-14th
“Dig your Spurs into Reading!”
Week #3 Feb 17-21st
“Ropin’ in the Books!”
Week #4 Feb 24-28
“Yee Haw – Stampede into a Story!”
Any student who completes all 4 weeks of challenges will be considered “Best Readers in the West” and invited to participate in a Western-Themed Photo Booth, and be eligible for drawings for additional prizes - bikes, pizza lunch with principal, posters, gift certificates to bookfair, etc!
The class with the highest percent of participation will get a visit from the Ice Cream Truck this Spring and the grade level with the highest percent of participation will get a popcorn!!
Book Fair News
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming. The book fair will be starting Thursday, February 20th and running through Thursday, February 27th. It will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day and until 8:00 p.m. on conference days. Flyers will be sent home with students prior to the book fair. Check out the e-wallet option which lets parents create an account, deposit funds and students can shop without needing to bring money to school.
Thank you volunteers!
We would like to thank all the parent and family volunteers that were able to help with the roller skating unit. Your help is greatly appreciated and we were able to get the kindergarteners and 1st graders out on their skates quickly. Without the help some of them still might be getting ready to skate.
Thanks again for the wonderful support and your time.

Painless Fundraising
Did you know that every boxtop that you clip or scan is worth $.10? It might not seem like much, but it adds up. Hate clipping them out? Check out the new app, it’s as easy as scanning your receipt! More info can be found here:
Also, during the package transition, both boxtops will count, so we can “double dip” on those - $0.20 per box top!! So keep sending those boxtops in, even if you are scanning them!
