PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Families,
This week: online registration for kindergarten for next year has opened up. If you know of any families in our neighborhood with incoming kindergarteners, please spread the word and encourage them to register!
If families are interested in applying for the Spanish Dual Language program, that is a separate application through Enrollment and Transfer.
All neighborhood families should register for kindergarten, separate from the lottery application.
Currently, we are only staffed to have one neighborhood kindergarten class for the upcoming year due to declining enrollment and I’m hoping if we have enough kinder students registered in the next couple of months, we can advocate to staff for two classes.
On a positive note, Atkinson will be adding music to our special programming through funding provided by the state and a PPS initiative to create comprehensive arts pathways for students to include visual arts and music. We are excited to offer students this new opportunity to develop their musical foundations K-5.
Last week: Our staff lounge was showered with treats on Monday the 14th, thanks to our amazing class reps through the PTA. Throughout the week, students had so much fun sharing kindness with one another. On Friday the 18th, we celebrated the 100th day of school! Students were amazed at how quickly some of our primary teachers transformed into 100 year-olds! Additionally, Kindergarten classes closed the week with presentations supporting Black History and Excellence by accentuating contemporary individuals in the Black Community, and representing their art on our stage, including Celia Cruz, Willie Ninja and Kahinde Wiley.
I feel so fortunate to be part of this incredible school community. Despite the uncertainties throughout the year thus far, our teachers, students and families have remained inspired and encouraging!
With care,
Jennifer Fontana

In our efforts to make DLI enrollment more transparent and accessible, we are hosting several community meetings in partnership with Latino Network, Albina Head Start, and PPS Early Childhood.

RUN FOR ATKINSON- APRIL 7th
We are excited to be planning and building enthusiasm for our annual Run for Atkinson. All proceeds go directly to supporting Atkinson students and staff with additional artist in residency experiences, assemblies and teacher professional development. All students will receive a t-shirt for the run and we need you to complete this FORM to indicate your child’s t-shirt size. We’ll be running on the Franklin High School track! Thank you to Peggy for securing us this venue for an amazing experience for students. As we get closer to the date, we’ll share more details about the Run. For now, it’s a Save the Date!!
