9/28/2017- Your Weekly Update for Mayfield Intermediate

Parent Teacher Conferences

Thursday, October 4th and Friday, October 5th will be our parent/teacher conferences. On this day students will have an early release from school. The students will be leaving Mayfield Intermediate School by 11:20 AM.

Please make sure that you have a scheduled time to meet with your child's teachers. I'm sure the teachers would love to share all the wonderful news about your child's growth during the first 5 weeks of school.

Campus Cup Challenge

I'm sure that you have heard your child talking about the Bobcat Bucks, the Campus Cup Challenge, and our newest addition to help recognize our amazing students, the Bobcat of the Week Champion Belts. This year at Mayfield Intermediate we want to make sure that we are recognizing students for giving our school their Bobcat Best! Each week kids are given Bobcat Bucks for going above and beyond. During lunches the students place their Bobcat bucks into a designated box that has been created for their campus. We have been counting thousands of Bobcat Bucks each week which means we are recognizing a lot of positive student behaviors here at Mayfield! As of Week 4 for the Campus Cup Challenge, the George Mason campus leads with 2 victories followed closely by the VT and VCU campuses. JMU has been close all 4 weeks with winning. Will the leader board change this week?

All Manassas City Public Schools Accredited

All nine Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) are accredited based on the 2018-19 results released by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) today. Beginning this school year, the State Board of Education implemented the revised Standards of Accreditation, and schools were evaluated on school quality indicators grouped into three categories: academic achievement, achievement gaps, and student engagement and outcomes. The revision to the state formula gives credit for students who made significant growth in reading, math, and English language acquisition.

“I am very proud of the hard work put in by our students and staff,” said Dr. Kevin Newman, superintendent of schools. “My message to our school community encourages everyone to stay committed to the process and seeing it through. Although accreditation is a great accomplishment, we have to continue focusing on improving achievement for all students and we will do this through examining the data that shows us the areas that are thriving and the areas that need additional support.”

Accreditation ratings for 2018-19 are available on the Virginia Department of Education website.
