Panther volleyball
Friday, cross town rival Grapevine made the short trip to Colleyville Heritage. The visiting Mustangs started off strong taking an early lead in the match winning the first two sets 23-25, 21-25. The varsity once again showed that Panther Fight Never Dies capturing the 3rd set 25-22 to stay in the match. The Panthers would win the 4th set in dominating fashion 25-13. In the 5th set Grapevine took an early lead forcing the Panthers to take an early time out at 2-5. Down 6-9, Jill Dickens came away with back to back kills to chip away at the lead bringing the Panthers within 1 point. After a long rally the Panthers outlasted the Mustangs to tie the match at 9-9 forcing a timeout. Tough serving by Jillian Dits, a diving one armed save by Grace Koper, and a well placed kill by Jill Dickens allowed the Panthers to take the lead in the set 12-9. The Mustangs would inch a little closer before a huge block by Ashley McKillop and Grace Koper that would put the Panthers up 14-11. Brynna McKiernan would help complete the epic comeback by tooling the block to pick up the final kill and end the match 15-11. The varsity moved to 7-0 in district.
The Panthers were lead offensively by Jill Dickens who picked up 21 kills and Avery Cimperman who came away with a career high 19 kills. Cimperman had only 4 errors and hit an efficient .366 on the night. Brynna McKiernan also came away with 11 kills.
Grace Koper picked up another double-double pacing the Panther offense with 50 assists and picking up 13 digs.
The defense was lead by 29 digs from senior libero Jillian Dits. Morgan Sundell also picked up double digit digs coming away with 11.
The JV and Freshman played two hard fought matches eventually falling to Grapevine in 3.
The Panther volleyball teams are at home Tuesday when they host Saginaw. JV/9 will play at 5:30 and varsity will play at 6:30. Tuesday is also teacher appreciation night. All teachers will be admitted for free and the varsity has chosen teachers that have made a difference in their lives that they would like to honor in between the JV and varsity match.
