Principal’s Update

Hybrid Learning Plan

July 24, 2020

Dear DeSales families,

Our reopening committee has been working diligently to develop a plan that is thorough and thoughtful for the restarting of the next school year. In this update, I would like to focus on a hybrid option for families that aren’t comfortable sending their children to the school building daily for in-person instruction. Although DeSales is a small enough student body with a large facility that will allow our students to attend in person daily, the state is also allowing for flexibility in how children attend schools. Therefore, a hybrid learning plan is also an option for our students.

The state guidance says, “Schools are responsible for developing a mechanism to collect and report Daily teacher/student engagement or attendance regardless of the instructional setting.” For our families that aren’t comfortable sending their children into the school building, they will be able to participate in a hybrid learning plan from home. Our teachers are attending training this summer in both SeeSaw and Microsoft Teams to allow for this type of distance learning. All K-8 students will have a DeSales email address which will enable them to access all Microsoft 365 tools, including Teams. They will also be given an iPad to use to connect with the teacher and complete assignments. As long as the students at home respond to theIr teachers’ daily prompts/assignments, they can be marked “present” for that day.

We will continue to work on the details for re-opening and I will keep you posted as our plans develop.

Thank you and take care,

Karen Rahill, Principal
