“McMillen High School: A positive environment where we motivate, encourage and empower all students to take ownership of their academic and personal growth.”
Shout Out
As essay from a former student about Paula Ham
Some people want to be a doctor so they can save lives. Some people want to be a professional athlete for the thrill of the game. But not me, I want to be a teacher. A lot of people react to me saying I want to be a teacher in different ways. But once I tell them the reason why I want to teach, they are in shock because they realize the real reason people teach. So why do I want to teach? Because I believe that the teachers, no matter what year of schooling, help to shape the person you become and the way you further live your life. I want to be that teacher that a student can come to when not only they don’t understand their classes, but one that they can confide in when they are having issues outside of the classroom. My sophomore year of high school I had one of those types of teachers. She taught Geometry, and I would talk to her when I was having a bad day, week or just a bad hour of the day. She is the reason I figured out I wanted to teach. She taught me that teachers don’t just come into work to show students about math, they come in and shape the future doctors, scientists, veterinarians, and of course future teachers. Everything that you learn from a teacher is going to help you shape your life into something amazing, that is why I want to become a teacher. Someone helped me figure out who I was and how I wanted to create my future, and now I want to pass that onto the next generations of students. I want to help them become the best person that they can be, at that moment and for their future.
