Principal Welcome Back to Families
A Back to School Newsletter Template 2023-2024

Dear Beacon Hill Students and Families,
It’s almost time. In just a few days, we’ll be welcoming our students to the best middle school in all the world. We begin this year full of optimism and excitement as we prepare our students for life beyond school. The following instructional vision captures everything we’re striving for this year: Beacon Hill Middle School instruction will empower ALL students to become productive, global citizens through differentiating, collaborating, and utilizing culturally responsive, high-leverage practices. This vision really speaks to ALL students and we intend to do just that as we look to become partners with you throughout your child’s educational journey.
If you would like to contact me, you may do so at dthomas@csdecatur.net
See you soon!!!
Derrick L. Thomas, Principal

Meet and Greet Information
Friday, July 28th we are hosting a Meet and Greet for Families
On Friday, July 28th we are hosting a Meet and Greet for families new to BHMS. This is an opportunity for students and families to meet their new teachers, take a peek into your classrooms, and learn your way around the building. Teachers will be meeting many families at this time, so we ask that you save any specific questions or concerns regarding curriculum or individual students for another time. The meet and greet is for 6th grade families and those 7th/8th grade families new to the school. Bringing in 900 families of 7th/8th graders is not an option due to overcrowding. However, we won't turn anyone away if a returning family chooses to come
We will have Curriculum Night on August 22 for the adults of our students and Spirit Night for our entire BHMS community on August 18th.
From the PTA
The PTA is excited to be at the Meet and Greet! We will have a table with membership sign up station, spiritwear sales, and hand-outs from one of our sponsors Quest Orthodontics.
Thank you,
BHMS PTA Board
Annual Data Update
Help BHMS be the first to be the first school to reach 100% submission!
Returning families: please complete the Annual Data Update in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal before the first day of school!
It is essential for parents or guardians to complete the Annual Data Update by the start of school. Some "opt-out" selections around directory information or media sharing must be submitted via the ADU, or in writing to your principal, within the first 10 days of school each year. If you missed doing this the first few weeks, the ADU is still open to:
- make sure we have your current contact information
- provide your student's health information
- complete mandatory district signoffs
Please review the K-12 District Handbook and the Code of Conduct and Restorative Practices Handbook before completing the update. Click here for a larger copy of the graphic further below with directions on accessing and completing the ADU. Go here if you need help logging in.
Schedule Information
Schedule Corrections
Families and students can now view schedules via Infinite Campus. Click here for information and assistance utilizing the Infinite Campus student and parent portal.
Students will receive a finalized paper copy of their schedule in their first-period class on the first day of school, August 1. Each year there are a few errors or enrollment adjustments that require minimal changes (ex. 2 math classes). Other adjustments may be necessary to balance class sizes due to changes in student enrollment. Don’t panic, we’ll get them worked out on day one. This form is available for students who need schedule corrections.
This form is Not for requests to be with friends or change connections courses.
We’ll consider schedule corrections for the following reasons:
The student has a period that is missing a course.
The student has two of the same courses.
