Summer Reading
"Anything but Typical" by: Nora Raleigh Baskin
About the Book
In the story Anything but Typical, the author tries to teach that if you try hard at something you can become very good at it. For example, the main character is autistic, but finds out that he is an extremely good writer. Since the main character is different than most kids his age, he doesn't have many friends so he tries to find some by writing stories online. Jason didn't think he was a great writer, until he met a friend that told him he was a great writer and should make more stories. That he did and his stories got better and better. This story has influenced me to trust other people and take their advise and try new things because I might like them.
About the Main Character
The main character, Jason, is an autistic 12 year old with a desire for writing. At first, Jason was a little bit scared of putting stories up on a website so that many people could see it. Jason's mom was a big support to him. She encouraged him to write a story to put on the website, but that didn't matter, until he met his friend, Rebecca. She liked his first story, and she thought he should make some more and he did and Rebecca loved these stories too. Then all of the sudden, he hears that he is going to the same convention as rebecca is going to. Jason was excited but didn't want to disappoint her because he has autism. They finally meet and Rebecca is a little disappointed that she has been talking to someone a little bit different, but after all she accepts him for who he is
