St Jude School

A message from Fr. Joe
Dear Parents,
When I shared with Principal Mrs. Molly Hibler and a few faculty members that I wished to celebrate a special mass with the St. Jude school children on Thursday, December the 12th, everyone was excited about the news. A strong approval came also from my staff at the church office. What is so special about December the 12th? It is the anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe on the Hill of Tepeyac, Mexico, in 1531. Did you know that our Lady of Guadalupe is the patroness of the Americas? Pope St. John Paul II declared this officially in 2002, on occasion of the canonization of St. Juan Diego. From Alaska to the Tierra del Fuego, Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Queen and Mother of all Americans. Juan Diego is the humble Indian Aztec to whom the Mother of God appeared and on whose “tilma” (cloak) she imprinted her image. The story of the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a beautiful one. I have asked the children of our school to re-enact it for everyone. So, if you wish to see a short play that is very moving, come to the mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe at 8:30 AM, on Thursday, December the 12th. Although this is not a day of obligation, it is a prayerful way to honor the Mother of God. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!

- All students arriving by car 7:50 am and earlier must be dropped off using the car line.
- If you must park, please use the church lot and cross with your student using the crosswalk.
- After September 1st, St. Jude School prohibits parents of students in grades K-8 to accompany their child into the school building during morning arrival. Noted exceptions include: the student requires assistance with projects, birthday treats, or medical concerns.
Afternoon Walkers:
- Parents are not permitted to park at the rectory as a designated pick up site for your students.
- Parents are not permitted to park in front of the school to pick up your student. You are encouraged to establish a pick-up location on one of the neighboring side streets.
Your attention to these reminders is much appreciated, as the safety of the children is always my primary concern.
Enjoy the weekend!
Godspeed,

Wreaths Across America
St. Jude’s Cub Scout Pack 133 will be placing wreaths on veterans graves at St. Mary’s Cemetery, and hopefully as well as Ridgelawn Cemetery here in Elyria. A sponsored wreath is a small $15 donation and will help the scouts Remember the sacrifices our veterans have made. We will honor their lives in conjunction with the National Wreaths Across America event at Arlington National Cemetery on December 14th at 12 p.m. Your sponsorship will not only allow us to place a wreath, but it will assist us in restoring some of the headstones that have gone in disarray at these two cemeteries. Several of our Civil War, Spanish War, and WWI veteran’s markers are slowing disappearing in the dirt. This will be a joint effort between the scouts and the students at St. Jude School as we Teach them the value of freedom.
Please consider sponsoring a wreath. Donations can be made online directly at our sponsorship page at Wreaths Across America. Our group fundraiser code is OH0127P.
